Is there a gopher "proxy" available which would offer a service
comparable to pygopherd's web server but without some kind of security hole where everyone could use my server as a proxy to everywhere else?

Anna,
There's a public proxy available that you can use to direct web users
to your gopher hole at
https://gopher.floodgap.com/gopher/gw
I'm not aware of any local services you could run to host a proxy yourself..it might be out there somewhere :)

I also mentioned phroxy.net earlier too https://phroxy.net/gopher://gopher.erb.pw
As an example =)
Okay, thanks to both of you.
But that's exactly what I didn't want ;-)
