    Rocket Lab has formally established a new subsidiary in Germany and
    introduced a containerized mobile launch system designed for rapid global deployment, marking two significant steps in the companys expansion of manufacturing capacity and launch flexibility.

    Forward progress on its Neutron Rocket was also seen at Wallops via work on the Hungy Hippo element of the rocket.



    The company announced the creation of Rocket Lab Germany this week, with its headquarters in Munich. The subsidiary builds directly on Rocket Labs
    existing European footprint established through its 2025 acquisition of Mynaric, the Munich-based manufacturer of laser optical communications terminals for satellites. See Also Rocket Lab Forum Section L2 Wallops

    Under the Rocket Lab banner, the facility will continue producing those terminals while expanding into broader satellite, payload, and component manufacturing to serve European customers.

    Rocket Lab CEO Sir Peter Beck stated that Europe faces glaring gaps across both launch and spacecraft manufacturing, adding that the new company will address this by combining opportunities for high-frequency access to space
    and high-volume satellite production to deploy resilient constellations on rapid timelines.

    The Munich operation is intended to function as a regional hub, enabling the company to deliver satellites and related hardware to European clients
    without relying solely on its New Zealand or U.S. facilities.

    In parallel, Rocket Lab unveiled GHOST (Global Hypersonic and Orbital Spaceport Technology), a fully deployable launch system packaged into

    The system includes complete rockets, ground support equipment, and range control systems, allowing a functional launch pad for the Electron rocket or its HASTE hypersonic variant to be established almost anywhere in the world
    on short notice.

    GHOST is primarily targeted at defense and national security customers requiring rapid-response launch capability from locations dictated by mission needs. The mobile architecture would also enable access to new orbital trajectories and provide partner nations with sovereign launch options.

    The systems first permanent site will be Launch Complex 4 at the Pacific Spaceport Complex in Kodiak, Alaska, one of two new pads planned for the range. A suborbital demonstration flight is targeted for 2027. Containerized launch concepts are not entirely new. ABL Space Systems previously tested a similar launch-pad-in-a-box system called GS-Zero at the same Kodiak
    spaceport in 2022 before shifting focus away from commercial launches.

    Astra conducted Rocket 3 flights from Kodiak and Cape Canaveral using shippable pads and has outlined comparable plans for Rocket 4. Scottish provider Skyrora shipped a mobile spaceport to Iceland in 2022 for the unsuccessful maiden flight of its Skylark L vehicle before abandoning the approach in favor of a fixed pad at SaxaVord Spaceport in Shetland.

    With existing launch sites in New Zealand and Virginia, the addition of
    Alaska would bring Rocket Labs operational pad count to six.

    The announcements coincide with continued momentum on the companys larger Neutron rocket and recent U.S. government contract awards.

    Last week the U.S. Space Force awarded Rocket Lab a $397 million contract to build, launch, and operate a constellation of satellites based on the
    companys stackable Flatellite design. The spacecraft, intended to provide continuous tracking of airborne threats from orbit, will fly on Neutron from Rocket Labs secure facilities. The award followed a $266 million Space Force missile-defense contract in late July covering suborbital launches.

    Development of Neutron itself advanced notably this past week. The Archimedes engines that will power the vehicle have now accumulated more than 400 hot-fire tests at NASAs Stennis Space Center. Archimedes has been cookin'.

    With control and durability validated through multiple restarts, Rocket Lab confirmed that the full nine-engine set required for Neutrons maiden flight has entered production. After qualification and acceptance testing, the engines will be shipped to Launch Complex 3 at Wallops Island, Virginia, for integration.

    During the companys latest earnings call, executives provided a detailed progress update. Every major element of the vehicle has undergone significant testing and is entering final checkout and assembly.

    Stage 1 is in final assembly, while the interstage has completed its load-testing campaign and is moving into assembly. Stage 2 is finishing
    fluids and avionics integration and is expected to ship to Virginia shortly, the first major section scheduled to arrive at the pad. Rocket Lab Neutron

    Rocket Lab plans to perform end-to-end performance tests on the pad with the upper stage before installing the Archimedes vacuum engine, reducing risk ahead of full vehicle stacking.

    The thrust module, currently completing its own fluids and avionics work,
    will follow Stage 2 to the pad. As the physical interface between the vehicle and ground systems, it will undergo additional testing prior to mating with Stage 1.

    Final checkouts are also underway on the reusable Hungry Hippo fairing.
    Rocket Lab stated that the complete vehicle remains on track for delivery to the pad in the fourth quarter of this year. Beck emphasized that the companys priority is to ensure Neutron enters service as a mature system, ready for high-cadence production and frequent launches.

    The rocket already carries a substantial manifest, including missions for the U.S. Space Force and the National Security Space Launch program, flights for seven undisclosed commercial customers, and a dedicated launch for Kepler Communications, the first time Rocket Lab has sold an entire Neutron flight rather than a rideshare.
