    Read only utf-8 characters and report the total bytes;

    ---------- <Esc>:read !tr -d '\0-\177' < ~/etc/DAILYUTF.332 | wc --bytes
    18
    ---------- vim commandline ends

    Do the same but report the total number of utf-8 characters;

    ---------- <Esc>:read !tr -d '\0-\177' < ~/etc/DAILYUTF.332 | wc --chars
    9
    ---------- vim commandline ends

    Does that look right?
