working on a 'clean' server to put the bbs on, right after I wipe and begin a rebuild, dang VM host goes down. Cant reach the server co, or
any of my other vm systems. Being the weekend, it's likely Tuesday
before I know more.
I've had so many issues with this hosting company, this is just par
for the course.

Looks to me like it's time to take your business elsewhere.

Got that right. Rather than sit around and wait to hear back, I
pulled all my backups to a Cobalt Qube 3 sitting in my basement.
Pulled the source and let it compile overnight. Just finished getting
it all back online, this time from a place where I can watch it
better, I hope.

That's the main reason I still host my BBS here at home, although it's now resting quite nicely on a RasPi3 (which is much more quiet than the Athlon64 3700+ it was on prior to that). If my system goes down, it's my own damn fault. Not some company I'm paying a rental fee for hosting something and when it goes down I have no control over fixing it.
Obviously if I had crappy internet or something, it would probably be a better option. But since everything in and around my house is pretty reliable, I'd much rather pay my electric bill in order to run this stuff rather than a hosting facility.
It all started out working fairly well, but the last few months have
been utter horror. downtime, unreachable, victim to ddos, dns down,
you name it. Their IT would semmingly randomly select a vm to move to another host and not tell the client, something about all that wasn't appreciated by my vm and it would get stupid slow until it was
rebooted. Not to mention I would also lose console access until it
was rebooted.
I too, have pretty reliable internet and electric around home, and
have the whole setup on a line conditioning UPS. It remains to be
seen which ports, if any, TWC might be blocking on my home service. I
am having some snafu with getting all things working, but not ruling
out myself or the versions of things on the Qube yet.

For your ease of mine, I also have TWC and have been doing this for
quite awhile now. They don't block any ports, but when you visit Synchronet email stuff, you may want to consider relaying through Vertrauen or elsewhere. I've noticed TWC IP ranges on some blocklists,
and if you're not running some sort of certified email server, most of your outgoing mail will end up in other people's trash can.

I run my BBSs at home, which works well. When the NBN comes in the
near future, my line speed issues should be resolved. However, I do
have a VPS hosted by a company that a friend runs. The VPS has been
rock solid, except for one outage years ago. It hosts a heap of ham
radio related services that need bandwidth far beyond what I can
currently provide. I get a /28 of IPv4 and /64 of IPv6 on the box for
a reasonable price. :)

Don't get my wrong, I have nothing against VPS and hosting services
that do their job and do it well. It would be a great backup plan to
have somewhere reliable to host your stuff.
With this company that a friend runs, do you get any extra priviledges like access to the physical hardware somewhat close by or anything?
Even being able to have enough access to be able to shut down/restart
your services from outside the actual server if something were to go
wrong that you might notice before anyone else. Those would also be
some nice perks. :)

That's what the "ilo" (Intergrated Lights Out) on HP servers and
"idrac" (Intergraded Dell Remote Access) on dell servers are for. They provide remote console, power shutdown and re-start. All that's needed
is a seprate network cable and ip address. Some have more features
than other's. Ie: virtual media support.
As long as there is power to the machine even if it's turned off, you
can power it up etc.

You can see that this server is off atm...

That's pretty cool. Do a lot of providers offer this much access
though?
