What the hell is SIMNET?

Basically we're. trying to give as many telnet BBSes as many dial-up numbers around the world and POSSIBLY packet radio access as well.

At the moment we have five operational dial-up numbers,.3 in the US, my.GSM (V.32 basically) modem in Finland and finally an access.point in Romania.

If you want your BBS listed as a destination node the simply send an email
to admin@uuhec.net with.the subject "SIMNET Node Application" and the
contents in the.following format:

<upto 8 letter BBS ID>|<BBS Name and description|<telnet addres>|<port>

If you happen to have a.spare landline and modem lying around and would.like
to join.us in providing access points, please contact me at admin@uuhec.net
as well.

So I tried your US access points:
The Buffalo, NY and Chatsorth, GA modems both answer and connect but display nothing and sending keys does nothing. Eventually, I'm just disconnected. Is something supposed to be displayed to the caller?

The Oklahoma accesss point takes an unusually long time to negotiate with my USR Sportster V.92 and although it eventually reports "CONNECT 33600/ARQ", I just get a stream of garbage after that.

Yeah we had a bit of an issue with our central server last night (I moved
a file I shouldn't have) but everything should be working fine now.

I run the Chatsworth node, you must have called maybe when the gateway was down or something, I dont know if you were indeed the last caller at 11:57 EDT sexpots shows you were passed to the gateway, then call was dropped less than a minute later.

again thats strange, sexpots shows the connection, then that it handed you off to the gateway, if you did'nt even see the sexpots info I'm thinking line noise, thanks Rob, will keep working on it.

The modems negotiated an error-correcting connection, so "line noise" doesn't explain it.

pick up the handset and see if you can hear sparkles and crackles at the earpiece... do you also run digital service on that cable pair? i mean digital service like DSL... has the DSL been having problems maintaining the connection? if the answer to sparkles and crackles on the line is yes and you are running DSL on that has been having problems staying connected, i'd definitely be calling the service center but going to the DSL side and explaining that there's too much noise on the line for the DSL to maintain connection... you might also want to check/change your DSL filter/splitter...

yeah, i have POTS and DSL from windstream... trimming the trees won't do anything but fixing the breaks and water damage in the line will... we maintain
our own 1000' line from the demarc to the facility, though... they can't cross the LATA boundry that crosses our land and puts windstream on one side and centurylink on the other ;)

Actually the DSL has been doing great as far as I know, as far as Windstream goes around here I get one of the quickest connection speeds they have and maintain it. I have'nt had a phone on the lines to check it in ages, and the line runs straight from the service port to the DSL filter/splitter so I would have to run the phone out of the modem. so I really do'nt know there. and Rob did say it was an error correcting connect so line noise would not explain that, and truthfully, I've never received line noise that looked like that either. Thats just the first thing I could thing of because our lines on the street run through trees and everytime a storm comes, or it gets windy power browns out, so I expected the phone line to also..

I wish I could do something, but cannot, I've called all the utilities and this has been like this for close to 4 years now.. It's crazy.. Other than that I don't know what it can be, It's a new DSL filter, but we all know about the stuff made in China, I'll try to hunt down a new filter and see if maybe thats it.. but I'm kinda expecting it is'nt because sexpots showed a clear connect and then handed off to the gateway. I've never called a system that ran sexpots before so I don't know if it shows a status line or "identifier" or not before doing its job and passing off to telnet, but from the logging terminal it all looks good.

Bro, I dunno what the issue could be besides all the DUST I cleaned out of the RJ45 port of the modem, and truthfully I don't think thats the issue either, Before I joined SIMNET, when taking calls for my own BBS, I had people call through sexpots and connect to the BBS with NO ISSUES what so ever, and stay online as long as they wanted. I've made daily test calls from my machine that hosts SEXPOTS to the gateway and I get a connect with no issues, so I don't know what it can be.., AFAIK when I upgraded to 3.17 Sexpots did'nt have a new binary in the packet, so I left the old binary, I'll check again to make sure, but unless the long port address (XXXX) is throwing sexpots off for some reason than I have no idea, because I KNOW FOR SURE, it was passing calls off to local port 23 with no issues before and not giving any garbage like this, I need someone to give it another test call and try it out since I've changed the DSL filter and cleaned the lines. 706-422-9538.
