    Hi all,

I'm trying to set up FSXNet on my BBS as a FTN. I'm using BinkIt, and I think I've got it all set up on my BBS, but am running into a problem. Using echocfg, I've configured it to use port 24556 for the FSXNet host port, as the sysop mentioned. However, when BinkIt tries to connect to the host BBS, it tries to connect to f100.n1.z21.example.com:24554. The port is wrong, and the address doesn't look like it's valid either. I checked my host node configurations for the other nodes, and under the BinkP settings, I didn't have anything configured for the Host setting, so I imagine it's probably getting that information from the nodelist? I tried adding a host to the FSXNet host configuration in echocfg anyway, but that didn't fix anything. I'm not sure where it's getting that address or port for FSXNet.

Also, I have AgoraNet set up on my BBS, which is another FTN network, and I realized both AgoraNet and FSXNet use zone 21. I imagine that may cause problems - Is that true? If so, I'm not sure if there is a workaround, unless I'm able to use QWK for one of the networks instead of FTN. AgoraNet stopped using QWK a while ago, but it sounds like FSXNet might be available via QWK. The hub sysop for FSXNet went ahead and set me up via FTN though..

I found out what the issue was on my BBS. I had AgoraNet misconfigured in echocfg/sbbsecho.ini - I had AgoraNet set for zone 21 when AgoraNet uses zone 46. After I fixed that, I was able to successfully connect to the FSXNet hub.

    Hi all,

Maybe your confusing the listening port for BinkIt with the port of the linked-nodes? It'd help if you pasted snippets from your sbbsecho.ini file or screenshots from EchoCfg so we can see what you're trying.

Also, I have AgoraNet set up on my BBS, which is another FTN network, and I realized both AgoraNet and FSXNet use zone 21. I imagine that may cause problems - Is that true?

    Yes, that'd be a problem.

If so, I'm not sure if there is a workaround,

The workaround would be to use 5D addressing (domains), but SBBSecho is not really 5D capable, so you'd have to have 2 different sbbsecho.ini files and invoke SBBSecho separately for the 2 different networks, pointing to 2 different sets of in/outbound directories. BinkIt does support 5D addressing, but I don't think it can support more than one sbbsecho.ini file, so dunno if you'd just run multiple instances of BinkIt or what.

unless I'm able to use QWK for one of the networks instead of FTN. AgoraNet stopped using QWK a while ago, but it sounds like FSXNet might be available via QWK. The hub sysop for FSXNet went ahead and set me up via FTN though..

QWK would be a good option.

Yes FsxNet is available for QWK. I carry it on my board with QWK. It's an active net. I wasn't aware AgoraNet no longer uses QWK. I applied for it 3 months ago but never heard from the Sysop. I'm not going to setup FTN for one Net so thanks for the info. I applied for an FTN node and still waiting for a reply on that too. I'm going to give it a shot but if it turns out to be the same "hair pulling" experience I had in the 90's I may just stick with the QWK Nets.

Agoranet is zone 46, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, though the hub sysop went ahead and set me up via FTN. :)

Yeah, I had the zone for AgoraNet misconfigured as 21. I set it to 46 and it looked like I was able to connect to the FSXNet hub.

I thought I had this fixed last night, but it looks like the issue has crept up again. If I try to poll the FSXNet hub, it tries to connect to the wrong address and port. I do have the FSXNet nodelist set up in echocfg > domains.
