Track down Avon in the FSX echos. He runs a usenet server and may be able to give you some indication of which have traffic.

If you have access to FSXnet, Avon has a BOT post at least once a week in
the BOT echo that lists all of the usenet newsgroups he ports over to
fsxnet. That list includes the traffic experienced during the period. Good indicator of whether or not a newsgroup has traffic (provided that it is
one he carries... he carries many).

If you want an NNTP feed, I can give you access to my news server as I am
able to carry any of the newsgroups. I can give you the link to download the complete list from my web server if you would like? I update it on a regular basis.

If I have a chance I'll logon and get the list... I'm playing with SBBS's ability to pull UseNET.. I have a free feed and it seems to be working. Because there is some efort on my part I'd like to key in only active message areas.

Well good luck on that :) Finding "active" newsgroups is not as easy as finding active echomail areas, considering there are over 200,000
    newsgroups available out there.

I'd be interested in taking a feed from you, then when I get setup with Avon too it'll be an extra peer point for you both. What do you use for your
usenet server? I'd be using InnD but having a struggle to find the time to
read how to configure it properly :/
