It used to be laat way (before v3.03): http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/src/sbbs3/sbbsecho.c#rev3.59
but since we send automated area mgr replies *from* "SBBSecho", I wanted to avoid the possibility of a bot-loop, e.g.

1. "SomeBot" sends an automated AreaFix cmd to "AreaFix" (in SBBSecho)
2. SBBSecho responds to the cmd from "SBBSecho" to "SomeBot".
3. "SomeBot" doesn't like the response, so it replies to "SBBSecho".
4. goto 2 :-)

I could easily put the SBBSecho alias back and just see how it goes. We already have protection against two SBBSecho-bots going back and forth (SBBSecho won't send areamgr or PING responses to "SBBSecho").

Let me know if you want to have the areamgr alias restored.

Okay. If it's a problem (actually becomes responsible for a bot-loop, for example), I would just remove it (again).

but since we send automated area mgr replies *from* "SBBSecho", I

i understand... that's probably why the responses are written to the operator of the system making the requests...
