How do you read and write messages on the BBS? I can't see anything
anywhere.

You obviously wrote that message.. How did you do that? I'm not sure I understand your question.. And when you say you "can't see anything anywhere", do you mean you can't see any messages being posted on the BBS you're using?

Right now I am live on the BBS.

Currently I am using a QWK mail setup to access these groups.

It just dawned on my while I have been waiting for the BinkIT automatic
setup wiki page to finally load (just won't download).

There is no mail editor on Syncronet.

Currently I am using OLX for mail.

So, what is everyone using to read mail and Groups?

There are different tools for editing and reading.

There's the built-in message reader, which will show you private mail and public messages of all kinds. (This could be email, netmail, and message areas on the BBS that may be local, networked via QWK, FTN, NNTP ...) Alternative readers exist.

There's a barebones built-in message editor, there's FSEditor, there's SlyEdit, and there are other message editor doors that you can configure.

You can customize both of these things, but even on a default/stock install, yes, there are ways to read and write messages. Options in the default command shells (menus) will bring you to them.

I am going through the task of building a BBS, knowing nothing.

It is rather incredible, I am sure everyone remembers thier first time.

I entered all the info into the various areas of Syncrhonet. Now I am
going to make the connection to my Boss node with BinkIT when I run the
sript to build it.

So I have a BBS System that is so cool, all I see is the info on the
goings on. But, where do I enter messages and read the groups?

Mutlimail???? or multimail ish???

That is what my question is.

This is a progression for me.

I'm not sure why you say there is no mail editor with Synchronet..? For
the telnet (text-based) interface, Synchronet has a built-in message reader, and for writing messages, you can install many message editors that were popular for BBSes back in the day. A new Synchronet install also has Deuce's FSEditor by default, and as of version 1.16, Synchronet also includes the SlyEdit message editor in a new install. So you could use either of those to write messages or install another editor of your choice.

For reading, I use a custom message reader that I wrote, which is available in the Synchronet CVS (it has a scrolling interface for ANSI users).

Every so often I'll use a web browser to read/write messages - I have echicken's ecwebv4 interface installed. But by default, Synchronet has an older web interface that you can use to read & write messages.

Also it's good to post your replies on the bottom, under the quotes, rather than on the top (above the quotes). It makes the conversation easier to follow that way.

I sometimes use multimail but most of the time I just read and write on the BBS.

So, what is everyone using to read mail and Groups?

I read from the BBS and when entering new messages I use Nightfox's SlyEdit. It comes with Synchronet (at least the linux verion I run here). SlyEdit can be made to look like IceEdit or DCTEdit or if you edit the config files you can make it look the way you want it to.

You don't have to use an external program to write messages if you don't want to.. By default, Synchronet has options on its main menu to read messages and post a message. Also, from Synchronet's built-in message reader, you can reply to messages you're reading from there. Look at the options on Synchronet's main menu when you're logged in.. Multimail and similar programs are only used if you wanto read & reply to messages offline, but you don't have to do it that way.

The overall style is still IceEdit or DCTEdit style. Most of the color themes that come with SlyEdit were made to match the ones that came with IceEdit and DCTEdit originally. I created a couple of my own themes as well.

So, in Synchronet, a "message group" is a group of topical message areas (called "sub-boards"). A stock Synchronet install has 2 message groups: Local and DOVE-Net and each group contains multiple sub-boards.

I'm not sure what you mean by "message groups running".
