    Is it really a problem? It probably just means that some host on the Internet port-scanned your system. You could disable that service if you're not really using it for anything.

    I concur with DM, it sounds like somoene portscanned your system on the QOTD port. Do you have a firewall in place? Most people have firewall that blocks traffic with the exception of specific ports. If you don't have a firewall and you haven't locked down your BBS system, there are probably a bunch of ports open to the internet that someone could use to compromise your network, and the systems on it.
