I've read all the documentation, Even the somewhat old Big Dummy's Guide to FidoNET. And I'm kind of lost.
I finally got the nodelist and backbone.NA from the barely functioning Filegate.net.
I followed the synchronet documentation (wiki) and configured SBBSEcho and BinkIT using a temporary node address so I can send a netmail to the NC.
When I try to send the NetMail I get an error. Same error I get for a bad internet address. I tried 1:136/300@fidonet.org but that failed.

Try leaving off the @fidonet.org ? You'll probably want to make sure you're routing all zone 1 netmail to that particular node. Personally,
I did it the modern way and just sent an email to get a proper node address :)
I actually did the old fashioned netmail to get my Fido address. :)

I don't see that net or node in my nodelist. Are you sure that's the node you want to contact?
When I enter netmail here I just use Some One@1:136/300.

To send FidoNet netmail from within Synchronet, the syntax is "user@address", so that'd be sysop@1:136/300 to send to the sysop of FidoNet node 1:136/300.
You didn't actually provide an error message, so that'd be helpful too.

Yep, I've been netmailing since before I had an email account. No
servers involved. Most of the time I send it directly where it needs to go.

I'm pretty sure that was fixed in rev 1.3 of exec/email_sec.js or exec/load/userpropers.js rev 1.3 - have you updated these files recently?
