  • Packet type - IREX via FT

    I am looking at receiving a Fido feed via FTP. In doing so, what packet type should I select. I'm thinking 2000+. Is that correct?

    I have always used Type 2 or Type 2+. I have never tried Packet 2000.

    AFAIK, PKT2000 never really made it anywhere... i don't recall it from any of the mainstream tossers of olde... can you point to a FTS or FSP?

    i found it... it orginated in STN back in 1996... i don't see where it was ever
    presented to the FTSC for consideration but there are some packages that do implement it... as of July 1998, there were eight packages with it but three of
    them were/are not available... of the others, three are mailers, one is a FTN<->internet gateway processor and the last is a BBS package...

    so the answer to the original question is "no, for the huge majority of systems"...

    it is not... FTN documents and uses three Type 2 variants...

    Type 2 (aka Type 2.0) - FTS-0001
    Type 2+ - FSC-0039 and FSC--0048
    Type 2.2 - FSC-0045

    there was also several Type 3 and Type 10 formats discussed long ago but nothing ever made it out of the design, document, and demonstrate stages...
