I found a work-around until I get this resolved. I have a script to remove the two .. before the packet name and sbbsecho is able to process it even if it's more than 8 characters. That is for inbound. Outbound works fine.

I've been following what you have been saying about all this and sorry to say I have no idea or comment what might be happening.

Looks like a linux path beggining with .., that shouldn't happen. Is the tosser you are receiveing these files from running on linux or windows?

I wonder if it would make a difference if you made sure the path settings there used "/" as a path specifier on linux, or "\" on windows.

    Ttyl :-),

You and me both. I've used SBBS and BinkD a lot and since I returned to
SBBS Linux, I can't quite get a grip on it.

It is a linux path. The first period (.) makes it hidden as a file
attribute, thus making SBBSEcho not be able to find it. Running my
script to rename all the incoming packets with .. seems to allow the
packets to process, even though they're more of a filename than need be. .._echomail_out.13c_packet.??? for example.

I wonder if it would make a difference if you made sure the path
settings there used "/" as a path specifier on linux, or "\" on
    windows.

I've tried both .. and / or \ and it has the same effect.

/ usually works just fine (in configuration files, e.g. binkd.cfg) on Windows too and I recommend using it instead of backslash (which must be "escaped" with an additional backslash when used in binkd.cfg).
