• nntp interface showing old groups as new

    From Nelgin@1:103/705 to DOVE-Net.Synchronet_Sysops on Fri Jul 27 17:19:51 2018
There seems to be some issue with the nntp interface where a bunch
of groups that have been around for ever are still showing up as
    new in the newsreader.

    NEWGROUPS 180726 141916
    231 list of new newsgroups since 2018-07-26T14:19:16.000Z follows AV.Adv_NewFiles 817 1 y
    Agoranet.AGN_ADS 3896 3374 y
    etc..

Well, these are some of the first groups I have ever added. They should
not be showing up as new each time I connect.

    Thanks,
    Nigel

[21:32] <cvs_rswindell> Experimental fix for NEWGROUPS command:

That made all the groups go away and just show the ones that had new
articles. I'll have to add a group and make sure it shows up. I'll
follow up and let you know.

It did? So if you post a new message to a sub-board, it shows up in the list of NEWGROUPS? It shouldn't.

Well, the fun didn't last. I added Local.Test and posted an article, quit
my newsreader, restarted it and Local.Test is still showing up as new
    so close, but not quite.

    Got some example log output?

The script (nntpservice.js) compares the requested date/time with:
    1. the creation time of the sub's .shd file
    2. the "Created" timestamp value in the sub's .ini file (if it has one)
    3. the imported timestamp of the first record in the sub's .sid file (if there
    is one)

If the requested date/time is later than any of the compared date/time's, then sub-board is *not* included in the NEWGROUPS list.

At least, that's how I think it's supposed to be working.
