• backbone file import Area Message

From Rmh@1:103/705 to Digital Man on Fri Jul 27 06:51:07 2018
    Digital Man,

Something I didn't realise during the Mass Import of Areas is the following.
I have imported the Usenet Groups from 0-B which is beyond the previous figure of 1900+, that's about 2000+.

For some reason it doesn't import all the file but part of it.
As A test , I have split the file in 2 and I have tried to create 2 different Message Areas, what happens is , the 1st import (again) imports the same number and before, and the second Area takes another 300+ and still a fraction of the second file is not being imported.

Basically the first batch stops at the following:

    alt.bestjobsusa.sales

I have checked wether there are spaces or hidden characters, but I cannot find anything there, the file seems just all right.

Now, I wonder whether there is maybe any sort of limitations to the file upload?

I will email you the files I am uploading for further analysis.

Also, if you need anything from my side, please, let me know.

    Many thanks!

ANother thing I have noticed is the import doesn't respect long names.

Example of export of the current Areas from Synchronet:

    ALT.BESTJOBSUSA.PORTLAND. ALT.BESTJOBSUSA.PORTLAND. ALT.BESTJOBSUSA.RETAIL ALT.BESTJOBSUSA.RETAIL ALT.BESTJOBSUSA.RETAIL.JO ALT.BESTJOBSUSA.RETAIL.JO

Actual names from the imported file:

    alt.bestjobsusa.portland.jobs
    alt.bestjobsusa.retail
    alt.bestjobsusa.retail.jobs

(Ignore the capitals in here please..)

(Digital Man, Apologies for all the pain, really...)

    Thanks for all your help.

    Export to what?

What's the sub-board look like within SCFG?

It was a limitation in the auto-generation of message base internal codes. I've committed some changes to CVS and was able to import 10,247 of the 10,258 areas in the file you sent me (usenet_0_b.na). The 11 areas that didn't import were was actually over-written by subsequent groups where the first 63 characters of the newsgroup name were the same.

I will email you the files I am uploading for further analysis.

    Very helpful, thanks!
