People,
I got a very basic question to which I would need just someone pointing
me into the right Documentation if there is any document about how to
in SYnchronet??
I am trying to pick up the echomails in a ofline mode from my Laptop...
So, I already golt everything running, (golDED, binkp..etc...)
Currently I log into the BBS no problem, I can see the logs and all
good. But I am not sure , from a Synchronet point of view how to create/prepare/schedule the echomail packages for that user, how to do that.
I guess being a registered user for a particular bbs should be enough? WHich should I do from here?
I have been looking around, trying to find some documentation but I haven't been too successful so far..
I agree.... it sounds like that..I got a very basic question to which I would need just someone

Sounds like you're trying to setup a point.
No, a point, while "officially" (at least in Fidonet) is considered a "user" of the BBS, technically, it is basically the same as a full blown network node, except that it may not have a user interface like that of a BBS (but many points do). So you need to dive into FTN networking. There is info on ther Synchronet wiki on how to set it up. Technology wise, a point is basically another node, just that it has an address the same as its "boss node" (the main BBS), except that the address has a point number added. For example, I have the BBS node 3:633/410 (this system on Fidonet), but I also have a point 3:633/410.1, which is for my mail bot. :)
Of course, there's another, often simpler way to read mail offline - QWK or Bluewave with an offline reader.

I haven't done this stuff in more than 24 years, also We used to do it
in a completely different way, so a full blown discovery again!
aha!! So from a Synchronet point of view I need I need to setup a
point. I just need to gather some more details on how to do that for Synchronet, and I am sure I also need to update the Fidonet list !

aha!! Bluewave!! I have forgotten that one and I was using it long time ago!! Another one to look at!//

From a Synchronet point of view, you're setting up a FTN link between two nodes, one just happens to have a point address rather than a full node address, so you need to read up on FTN networking. There are articles in the wiki. The main nareas you need to pay attention to are in scfg -> Networks -> Fidonet Echomail and Netmail, as well as echocfg (which configures both your tosser (sbbsecho) and nmailer (BinkIT).
What software does your intended boss node (the BBS you're wanting to be a point of) run? Seems most modern software (Synchronet, Mystic, Magicka and others) offer some form of offline mail (usually QWK) out of the box. And for a QWK reader, Multimail is available for modern platforms. I'm running the native 64 bit Windows version of Multimail now (I access my BBSs as an offline mail user). My Linux box also has Multimail installed. The reason I went with offline mail, rather than a point is that I have consistent last read pointers, regardless of what device I use for offline mail.

Uh... seems like you're wanting to use FTN for this? If so, then you'd setup the offline system as a "point node" and no, no "registere user for a particular BBS" would be involved at all (unless you opt for QWK or NNTP instead).
RainManHood<---
It got:
* Hisky (first time I hear about this one)
* binkd
* golDED
At the present I managed to get binkd running, it manages to reach my BBS correctly, and GolDED does the offline mail reader, but I am failing to send anything over. Also not doing well collecting anything from my BBS yet, I haven't configured that correctly yet...
I would probably need a QWK reader as MultiMail on top of it, so I can read for example all this echo(es) from Dove-Net.

Yeah..
I have been also looking at that, and apparently the best is to use Multimail (https://multimail.sourceforge.io), now I would need to figure out how to download/upload the echomail + how to Configure Synchronet so it can pick the current fidonet + other mail as QWK packages.

I am currently trying to figure out how to put all that together on Synchronet...
To setup a Node, it's not a huge problem. Different story to create a point linking other nodes where to pick up the Echos from. So I got lot
of questiosn there..
I am currently configuring a bundle called: fidoip: https://sourceforge.net/projects/fidoip/
It got:

No, you don't need both. A pointer node or QWK reader or NNTP reader
can access *all* of the Synchronet sub-boards. You only need *one*.
On 07-23-18 13:58, Digital Man wrote to Rmh <=-
If you use a QWK offline reader, there should be *nothing* additional
you need to do on the BBS side. Using a QWK offline reader (or an NNTP reader) you should immediately be able to download/upload messages
from/to *all* the sub-boards on the BBS.

Works for me. :) Only minor wrinkle with QWK is it's not possible to compose a netmail or email from QWK, except as a reply, because unless there is a message in the email area, it doesn't appear in the area list when composing in QWK.
On 07-24-18 04:20, Digital Man wrote to Tony Langdon <=-
That depends on your reader. The QWK offline readers I used in the past (SLMR, OLX) showed "empty" areas so long as they were present in the CONTROL.DAT file.

or
"I have 3 or 4 devices and want to be able to read my BBS mail on them"
or
"This technology is cool, I want to setup a point so I understand how the networking works".

2. copy the UNICYBER.QWK packet as UNICYBER.REP

Ok... So I decided to go for Multimail as offline reader.
it does the job nicely.
I also realised if I got the FTP server from synchronet running I can fownload the QWK package from there as: ftp://user@pwd@bbs.dns/filename.qwk (it would be insane if I could also upload it back without the need of using the BBS for the
uploading process.. Maybe a defined directory where I could place it and certains events/scripts take over it...
Digital man? is possible to process the QWK file manually?? Maybe to create an event and running that task could do it..)
From another hand, I am trying (30 times already..) to upload the packet once I have written my offline replies.
So done the following:
1. mmail oveer the UNICYBER.QWK packet (all good here)
2. copy the UNICYBER.QWK packet as UNICYBER.REP
3. BBS ---> ! ---> QWK ---> Upload ---> ZMODEM (waiting..waiting...) Selecting the UNICYBER.REP file.
4. issues at this point:
Jul 24 13:17:45 34819 sbbs: 7/24 13:17:45 term Node 1 Attempted to upload REP packet
Jul 24 13:17:45 34819 sbbs: 7/24 13:17:45 term Node 1 MSG file not received
Maybe I have missed anything out of the whole process?

Ok..... So for start, I am just trying to get the echomail so I can
read it/reply offline.
So, from here, I ahve decided to use Multimail which seems working
well, but I got some issue trying to upload the new package. (I replied back a few minutes ago to Digital Man about it as when I chose ZMODEM
the file gets uploaded but the logs say:
..
About Fido Point.. .I will look into that in another moment. Agreed I
will go slowly into this..
