Guys, do you know if is there anyway of EXPORTING or dumping all the configurations and re-importing them back again into a fresh new install?
Hi,
I was running a "dirty" upgrade of Synchronet a couple of weeks ago, and even since I am having some things not working too well ever since.
I had to re-add the timed events as the BBS stopped polling echomail between others.
Guys, do you know if is there anyway of EXPORTING or dumping all the configurations and re-importing them back again into a fresh new install?
But whatever problem you're having is likely in one of those configuration files. I'm not sure what a "dirty" upgrade is.

Just copy the configuration files. http://wiki.synchro.net/faq:misc#migration

Dirty upgrade means that I have upgraded over the live system.
Instead of taking backups, and upgrading the system, I just did it straight over it with the Synchronet installation commands 'make install SYMLINK=1'
SOmething didn't go too well there as I was explaining before..

Digital Man,
I did reverted the configuration area.bbs wise and that fixed the linked node issue but I wonder how can I removed the messages entirely?
I have done the following:
* remove message sub board from scfg
* remove Grouphub identifier from sbbsecho.ini
* Remove anything related from the areas.bbs file
But it doesn't seem to work like that. Not sure what I might be missing in the whole process as I am trying to remove the subgroup entirely as it got about 2000 echomail groups and it takes increidibly long for the users to Load the Message Pointers at loging in.
At the present I have stopped the polling and un-registered myself from the serving hub to stop making the mess even bigger.
So what is the current problem, just the slow loading of message pointers?

On the other hard, and based on the previous steps I provided to remove the messages
I have done the following:

It doesn't seem to remove everything, I still have the slow Message Pointers load on/happening, and it starts complaining:

Digital Man,
before I forget in case it's relevant, I got the following:
SCFG->System->New User Values->Days of New Messages = 0
It has been an interesting experience to load 2000 + boards. It was just bringing the Box to it's knees. 1 CPU/Core was all the way up to 100% and I had setup 10 nodes!!! So I coudn't imagine having jsut 4 simultaneous users!!
I can see the limitation now, anywhow do you see a way of getting all those many boards and still keeping the service just working all right?

Are all users having a problem with slow loading of message pointers, or just you (the sysop), or just guest, or what?
The pointers are stored in the data/user/ptrs/*.tab files. Are any of these files much larger than the others?

Pointers load on/happening,
Double-check those ptrs/*.tab files. They're ASCII text files too, so you can just read them. You could even delete or rename one (e.g. 0001.tab) if you want to experiment.
"it" in this case is SBBSecho, I presume. This means you have the internal code "USENETALAL..." in your data/areas.bbs file but it is not in your SCFG->Message Areas. Either remove the areas from your areas.bbs or just ignore the warnings.

SCFG->System->New User Values->Days of New Messages = 0So what is the current problem, just the slow loading of message
pointers?
That setting only impacts new user account creation and "0" would be the fastest possible setting there.
RainManHood<---
With a faster system perhaps. Do you really think you have enough users that will access even one percent of 2000+ message areas? That seems unlikely.
In any case, I'm sure there's some improvements and optimizations we could make to handle "a lot" of message areas faster, but generally that's nothing something that BBS sysops and users want. Still, I'll add it to the todo list.
