has anybody setup Golded+ For Synchronet / Linux ?

I remember using Golded+ 20+ years ago (MSSDOS) and I would like to have a look at it as another external editor.

I manage to get GoldED+/LNX 1.1.5-b20110213 (gedlnx)installed and I wonder whether anyone has done it and whether could share a how-to with the rest ?

I did at one time setup golded and recent versions can read your synchronet config files. It's very nice but it is a local editor for the sysop. I don't think it can be used as an external editor like FSEdit or SlyEdit.

You might need a version newer than that (it might work, not too sure) to read your SMB areas and config.

I'll try it again and see if I can remember the keywords needed for golded.cfg.

I cannot be integrated, I got that. And yes, I remember using it as an offline editor and I remember it as a very nice mail reader.
I was grabbing bits and pieces, but it is not 100% where to get the versions from but from sourceforge (if somewhere else, please advise as I haven't found anything else)

I spent a few hours trying to figure out some good versions.. it was a bit of a mess to find out the right binaries/versions ( at least that was my experience)

I have GoldED working with Sync under Linux, however it just doesn't like my dovenet message areas, and will completely bomb out when trying to read some of my newsgroup areas.

That said, it is what I use for reading/posting on Fidonet.

The thing that always hung me up on trying to import the AREAFILE, was that you need to use "Synchronet" instead of "SBBS"

eg:
AREAFILE Synchronet /opt/sbbs/ ; Synchronet BBS dir

Let me know if you have any questions. I'm by no means an expert, but I've played with it enough over the years that I know a few things.

I got GoldEd+ working with Synchronet (in Windows) once. But I found out that GoldEd+ didn't deal with Synchronet's message group prefixes, so unless I got rid of my group prefixes, my Synchronet message groups wouldn't show up in GoldEd+. I never bothered with GoldEd+ since then. I'm not sure it's something worth using.

Golded has a command line option to dump it's config or area configuration to a file. You can then edit that file and include it in golded.cfg. It is a lot of configutating but that approach will work.

ansi or ctrl a codes will not look the way it does on a BBS since golded was never designed for that but it is a very nice editor.

I still prefer SlyEdit myself though.. :)

Golded+ is something I knew from the old days and , at the time, it was probably the best out there.
I was also wondering what was people's experience these days, but We are talking 24 years later, so another universe.

as a note, I managed to compile and make GolDED operative for Synchronet in MacOsX.
The think is: you need to actually get the data/subs on your system + ctrl/msgs.cnf. With that you can go throught your echomail

so:

AREAFILE SBBS /<path>/data/subs/
AREAFILE Synchronet /<path>/ctrl/msgs.cnf

I can write/reply..etc... but I haven't gone beyond it, like creating a packet and uploading it to the Node/hub. (in another moment I will also deal with that!)

Golded writes directly to your messagebase. No packets to create. You just need to run your FIDOOUT event to send the messages your write to your links. It's the same as if you entered the message on the BBS.

You may need a few keywords in your golded.cfg for tear and origin lines. Can you post a message in FIDOTEST and we'll see how it looks?
