Hi I wondered if anyone knew what may be causing a bit of Synchronet weirdness?
When I connect to my BBS via SynchroTerm or another term in linux all is fine and well. Yet when I connect using my Hayes AT compatible modem on Kermit in MS-DOS 3.3, or on A-Talk with my Amiga everything works EXCEPT when I hit 'R' to read messages or new posts.
So I press R to have a read and wham!! Constantly repeated message posts are displayed, over and over without me pressing another key. And I can't get out or away from them. The same 1st message just scrolls round over and over and continues to do so forever!! I have to send "break" signals from the modem and if that doesn't get me off and outta there I have to just hang up!
Very weird. Yet everything else seems to work ok. All the menus and External apps/games and such.
Is it something on my modem/terminal settings maybe or something I need to adjust for older PCs and 8/16bit computers from back in the day?
Thanks for any help or ideas. :)

A raw capture of the data being (e.g. over Telnet) to the Synchronet termina server would be helpful.
If you have the avatar module installed, it'll send an ANSI cursor position request to the terminal for every message header viewed. It may be that olde terminal isn't responding correctly to the cursor position request. But that just a guess.

Ah interestingly enough I do have the avatar module installed so I will test with this disabled... Thanks I'll try and report back if it helps.

Saying that, I'm not sure how to temporarily disable the Avatars module. Ideally I'd like to keep it if it will work, so I don't want to delete it but just turn it off if this is possible? Just to test things...
You can disable the avatar display in message headers by changing the follow line in your ctrl/text.dat file:
"\1/@EXEC:SHOWMSGAVATAR@\r\n" 798 MsgHdrBodySepara
To just "\r\n"

Hey thanks, I tried editing this in the text.dat file and restarted sbbs but it hasn't made any difference. The weird behaviour is still there and the avatars still show too!?
Thanks again for any help, is there a cache I need to clear or something else I need to do so it takes effect?
