Do you know if there is a way of moving a set of sub-boards to a different prefix?
For example:
it was previously stored at data/subs/fido-data1/
and prefix: data1_
and now you want:
data/subs/other-data1/
and prefix: other1_
I had a go with an existing subboard and it doesn't seem to work too well doing those changes through exec/scfg and moving files/directories around..

This is the only way that I know of. It's a lot of work and you need to be carefull not to do any typos.

You'll have to rename the database files by hand, unfortunately.

In the end I scripted the move.
Nevertheless, what was your idea about using wilcards?? Can you share with us please?

The syntax will vary with the OS/shell you use, but something like:
ren fido_*.* new_*.*
