Windows 10 did some sort of update recently and Windows Defender started removing a lot of my .exe files in Synchronet telling me they were infected. After that, none of my doors work or my archivers. I have since added back the files that were stripped out, but still no luck with my doors or zip program. I'm at a loss as to what might have happened or what I've possibly missed. I'm currently running the nightly build from

or windows could be having its usual shit fits.
I'd be tempted to say that...I've heard of so many problems with
Windows 10, that I'm staying with Windows 7 32-bit. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"...never mind upgrade. <G>

I've also considered moving my BBS to Linux at some point.. But, I have it working right now and I'm not sure if I want to bother with that yet.

DO IT DO IT.. I know if I can, you most definatly can... I do have the occasional hiccup, but other than that.. no issues.. the BBS is running like butter now!.. I no longer get anymore than 1 error daily, if that.. especially with my frankenBBS setup.
One of the reasons I haven't moved my BBS to Linux is that I do have a couple of Win32 BBS doors on my BBS, and at least one seemed somewhat popular.. I'm not sure if there's an easy way to run Win32 BBS doors in Linux (not sure if Wine would work?). Also, I do like the graphical control panel that Synchronet has for Windows. I remember seeing a graphical SBBS monitor for Linux, but I don't remember if that's something that's still maintained or not.

A few months ago, I finally upgraded my BBS VM from Windows XP to Windows 7 N>32-bit. I was seeing sbbsctrl crash occasionally in Windows XP (particularly N>when reading messages with my message reader), but I haven't seen it crash in N>Windows 7. I'll probably stick with Windows 7 on my BBS machine for a while, N>unless I have a pressing reason to upgrade it at some point in the future.

I don't think that will work. Also, dosemu doesn't support DPMI on
64bit so if you ever want to try any DOS doors that use DPMI or ring 0 like Tradewars it's only possible on 32bit.

EMS still works, AFAIK... possibly also XMS...
I don't recall it crashing under XP, but the Control Panel has crashed
at times under Windows 7. All I have to do is restart it (Run As Administrator), but if it occurs overnight, or if I'm out on errands, it waits until I get back home.

I don't have the desire to learn a new OS.
Why do you run it as Administrator? I've never had to run sbbsctrl as admin N>and it has always worked fine for me.

It probably does, I haven't tried to run anything in dosemu for some
time. I was trying to pkunzip something a short while ago and I guess
it uses DPMI by default and failed. I'll have to remember the switch
to disable it.
why remember? it'll tell you... just type pkunzip (or pkzip even) with no filename... it'll give you a help screen... hit '4' and it'll show you the memory options...
