    Hi Gang,

    I was just wondering, where do ya'll tend to get your NNTP feeds from for your USENET groups?

    I only carry about 12 USENET groups (mostly commodore computer related) on my BBS, and my ISP has
    finally switched off their NNTP USENET server which they used to provide as a free service. Back when the
    ISP was run by Tech people who cared about such things.!

    I would like to still carry the groups if I can, but I can't seem to find any free service in Australia, and I don't
    think I want to go paying ~$20 a month to some paid service, just for 12 relatively low traffic feeds.

    Could we all band together and centralise or something? --------------------------------------

    I have a couple subscriptions to companies that provide newsgroup feeds for .. er ... scientific purposes.

    If you're looking for text-only, block subscriptions may be a good choice. https://www.tweaknews.eu will give you a 10GB block subscription for about $2.50, and that should last you quite awhile.

    I run a NNTP server at news.bbs.geek.nz that peers with at least one NNTP system in Australia (from memory)...

    I'm planning to move the domain to just news.bbs.nz over the coming months
    but you're most welcome to pull news from this.

    Best way to do this is grab a Zone 21 address (bbs.nz/fsxnet.zip) and then
    just ask to be hooked up to the 21:1/10 which offers a free bi-directional gateway between PKT format <> NNTP News. You can pull a bunch of text only
    news that way if you want.

    the infopack contains a file about the Usenet feeds so that will hopefully help.
