Has anyone experienced slow downloads over telnet?

I'll connect to my bbs over a local network, login and then download a QWK packet of 294KB, it takes about 4 minutes to download, with blazing speeds of about 1300-1500 cps.

This is pretty consistent, I've just grown weary and decided to ask others. On the Synchronet BBS/linux side, it is using sexyz, and I am using SyncTERM on Windows 10 to connect.

I think I have it tracked back to sexyz taking up almost all CPU process time when it is running. Yes, the box has a simple i586 processor, but does a zmodem transfer really require that much CPU power?

The sbbs process itself takes at most a few single digit percentage of CPU, and doesn't hit double digits when combined with running dosemu for a door.

I added the -s flag to sexyz to disable streaming mode and it has skyrocketed the CPS during a zmodem transfer.

Also finally realized most events weren't running for a few days, including QWK networking. ended up removing all the .dab files in /sbbs/ctrl and restarted the system.

maybe I'll just leave the innards alone now and go work on menus or something. ... He does the work of 3 Men...Moe, Larry & Curly

At this point I'm really leaning towards something else on the system and sexyz is just affected by that. You'll see in another message that I added the -s flag and all of a sudden the transfers were blinding fast.. a blip and the file was there, which I would expect when you are dealing with <1MB files.

This evening the slow transer speed is back, but this time I have the -s flag in place. so I think something else has to be affecting this. Just not sure what.

The '-s' option normally *slows* down transfers.
