    Hi DM,

    Just noticed when I installed the avatars feature into my BBS it kncoked the pointers back in some of the message groups I'm scanning/posting in.. No big deal I presume, and I see no other issues, it seems everything is running tip/top.. other than the aformentioned issue..

    BTW This is the ONLY thing I have really done.. Here is what I did to get it accomplished (Easier for me so I will not zork nothing up)


    I've created a 2nd sbbs tree to build and work out of and pull my new stuff out of it and put into my running sbbs tree. I followed the wiki to a tee with install and it seems to work great, the ONLY reason I made new builds of the exes and libs is because I wanted to.. I'm having NO issues whatsoever..

    I just had pointer issues with a couple message areas..

    I updated the pointers, everything is going good.. it possibly has nothing to do with the avatars.. but *somethging* reset pointers in 4 of my newscan groups. 3 in dovenet and one in gatornet.

    otherwise.. everything is well.. I'll keep a look out... and these avatars are cool as shit.. next thing to do is get the newest Sycterm out and see what mr deuce has been up to.

    That is pretty weird. I don't see any correlation between msg ptrs and avatars. How far back were the pointers 'reset'? Sometimes, if I login into multiple nodes at the same time (for testing, I do it frequently) - and I read a message in one node (say, node 1) and logoff and then the other node after (say node 2), then the message pointers will be stale (the last node to logoff wins the race). Is that a possibility?

    I was only logged onto 1 node, although I ddid have EcWeb v4 up too, (not reading messages, Just in the message network listings) one of the dovenet groups went all the way back to message #1, the others were in random places in the middle of the message lists..

    I noticed I still had the sbl2smb event in my daily events, (and it ran when I ran umonitor) but it should'nt have foolded with nothing but the data conference. (i'm running the pure JS sbl now) I've deleted that stray event..

    I've had no more issues, I cannot reproduce where they came from, but it's not happening anymore.. I may Have made a mistake because I put the default shell back in and it took me a minute to get used to it again, but still don;t thing I could have changed message groups, areas, and then message numbers before doing a newscan.. unless my fat finger accidently hit a search for text or something.. but nothing releveant came up like I did..

    I'm going to say its a non issues and more than likely operator error that I cannot track down.. if it happens again, I will give you more tangible information to work with.

    To the best of my recollection, that web interface will only update your scan pointer if you view a thread, and only if that thread contains a message that with a higher number than your current newscan pointer for that sub. Viewing lists of groups, subs, or threads should have no impact on your pointers.

    I was not super keen on twiddling pointers there to begin with, but some people were insistent.

    I have a feeling it was because I switched to the default shell until I implemented the avatar function into "My" regular shell. sometimes I get fat fingered and incidently hit buttons, although I don't see how I incidently hit enought to roll back multiple message groups..
    It has never came up again, with or without ecw so I really believe it was just "one of those things" every new feature comes with Gremlins that have to be run off over here..
