• SlyEdit Error Message

From Daryl Stout@1:103/705 to All on Fri Feb 2 01:18:33 2018
When I logged on early this morning (nature and a nightmare woke me, so I thought I'd check the BBS real quick), in replying to an email with SlyEdit, it suddenly quit, and the following error message showed up:

    Node1 !Javascript c:\sbbs\exec\SlyEdit.js line 1037: TypeError: gEditLines[gEditLinesIndex] is undefined.

and it took me to the main menu.

I was able to go back into Email, and reply to the message, with no further problems....but that's the first time I've seen an error message with SlyEdit. I like the way it operates, and really don't want to have to "switch message editors" if I don't have to.

What was the last thing you did in SlyEdit just before it "suddenly quit" with that error? With one of the recent earlier versions, someone reported that error when he was saving the message using /s on an empty line. If you were saving the message that way, I'd update to the latest SlyEdit because I fixed that error.

Looking at the last few SlyEdit commits, it looks like you may have been trying to quote the message you were replying to?

It sounds like it doesn't happen consistently when you do the same thing? I could have a look and see if I can see what might cause that though..

This has happened to me, but so far I don't know the exact steps to reproduce the problem,
so I haven't reported it. I'm pretty sure it was the same error message that Daryl
    reported.

For me it only happens on terminals with > 80 column width, when I have quoted someone
else's message, and (I think) when it starts doing line wrapping as I type.

    (I'm using FSEditor for now, and it's probably mangling line wrapping of this message;
    apologies.)

Thanks, it does seem to be related to having a wide terminal. I'll have a look and debug it next time I have a chance.

I was replying to it, and in the process of typing. I must've done a
funky keystroke, because the next thing I knew, I was at the Main Menu,
and I had to go back in to try the reply again. No errors the second
    time.

I did download the SBBS_DEV.ZIP for Feb. 1, and it's online now. I
normally answer my messages via QWK Mail, instead of online.

Just FYI, there are now separate archives (created daily) for the exec (sbbsexec.*), text (sbbstext.*), and ctrl (sbbsctrl.*) directory run-time files. So you can download a smaller archive and avoid problematic files more easily, if you care to.

Right. So you don't need to download sbbs_run.zip. That was the point I was trying to make. :-)

Daryl Stout said he is still seeing the issue that you mentioned. Also, I noticed another issue that may occur for new users. So for now I've decided to revert SlyEdit back to 1.54 in the Synchronet CVS as well as the download on my BBS. So you can revert back to 1.54 for a stable SlyEdit. If you also have updated your SlyEdit color configuration files (i.e. in the sbbs/ctrl directory), you should revert those back as well.

Saw a couple of error messages after you logged off. I think they are
the same as before. However, I'm getting ready to go get my car (it has
been in the shop), so the BBS stuff has to wait until later...as I have
to go help my elderly Mom with computer stuff this afternoon.
