no fault of their own (layed off, etc.) and they may end up taking a job unrelated to their degree because it's better than being jobless.

That is true. I have a Bachelor Of Arts in Radio/Television/Film, from the University Of Arkansas At Little Rock...where I first got my exposure to BBSing over 30 years ago...and I met the woman who'd eventually become my wife and Co-Sysop, on that BBS. The college is still there, but the BBS is long gone. Yet, the only "radio" I do is "amateur radio", and I'm the Volunteer Examiner (VE) Team Leader with the college's ham radio club.

That's cool that your wife was the co-sysop. Seems to me that most spouses wouldn't give much thought to their spouse's BBS (or in some cases might even think it's an odd hobby).

Yep, I thought so, too. She was actually Co-Sysop before we got
married...and we were "Married With Modem Sysops"...as the BBS was just
    dial-up only back then.

Unfortunately, I lost her to a massive heart attack 3 weeks shy of our
4th wedding anniversary nearly 11 years ago now. She had a defective
aortic heart valve since birth, and was only 48 when she died. I didn't
marry for the first time until I was 43...but never I dreamed I'd be a
widower at 47. I was the only husband she ever had as well.

I dedicated the BBS to her memory...and miss her each day.

Wow. I had no idea. Man that's really horrible. :( Very poetic and deep of you to commit your BBS to her memory. No one can be ready for nor prepare for such a tragedy.

There are 3 things that fail when you get older. The first is memory
    ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... DARN!! I forgot the other two!!

At least I have all the wonderful memories that no one can take away.
She did so much for the BBS, and her work (and her presence) is sorely
missed. She was also a fierce competitor in the doogames (as with
everything else in her life, according to her parents). In other words,
she was a great winner, but she sure was a sore loser!! <G>

No worries. Sometimes, I've seen the QWK Packets screw up the
messages, where you seemingly miss certain parts of it. But QWK Mail is
how I prefer to do my BBS mail.

She may not have had the best eyesight, but she'd find errors in
bulletins, etc. that I'd miss. Plus, it was fun having a spouse in the
various games to interact with. <G>
