What are the options and ideas to having a node dedicated to a modem, or if that isn't plausable with the more recent versions of Synchronet, just having a modem access.
I've read http://wiki.synchro.net/util:sexpots and compiled the linux variant, but then at the bottom of the page I read "There is a preliminary *nix port of SEXPOTS in CVS, but it's not being distributed or supported at this time. Use mgetty instead." Really.. put that at the top next time so I can save some time reading . (lol)
I've done mgetty and uucp setups before under *nix, and am trying to wrap my head around how this would work for the bbs. I'd like the modem to connect and hand off to the bbs, without the need to an additional login, which is what I can't seem to get around using mgetty.
So far, all I can get working is the user having to login to satisfy mgetty, and then I can spawn off a process to telnet to the bbs. Is there a different/better method? I'd really like to see the modem connect and hand off to the bbs right off, leaving all login stuff at the bbs level.
I have not tried much with sexpots yet.
Though I'd love to tell my wife I
was in the basement until 1am working with the sexpots, I'm not sure she would understand.
