Just wondering, I noticed my IRC bot was K-lined and noticed other bots that were there are gone, is it against synchronet irc rules to have a bot in the channel?
Not sure how to find rules in irc.
I use the IRC bot to log conversations so I can go in and read what has been asked in the channel.
Sometimes I find out new things about synchronet that I hadn't read in the wiki or thought of myself.

Are you sure this is the case? What's the log output from your bot when you try to
    connect?

were there are gone, is it against synchronet irc rules to have a bot in the channel?

What other bots have disappeared? There are three in #synchronet right now (that I know
of; a few of what I assume to be people might be bots).

Bots are not against the 'rules'. Especially encouraged is anything fun or useful you
want to do with the Synchronet IRC bot.

I use the IRC bot to log conversations so I can go in and read what has been asked in the channel.

Why not just leave an IRC client connected?

Not sure how to find rules in irc.

They aren't spelled out anywhere that I'm aware of. The userbase is small enough that
problems can just be sorted out when they crop up (which is basically never) without
having to apply some grandiose policy.

can't you just scroll back in your IRC client? most of them have logging capabilities, too...

I will reset my server and see if that takes care of it.

It says "You've been K-Lined from this server.

There are no K-lines I can find which target your bot specifically, but perhaps it's being caught by a pattern that's too loose.

What server are you connecting to when this happens? Even if it's "all of them", a particular example would help (eg. vert.synchro.net, cvs.synchro.net, bbsdev.synchro.net, ecbbs.synchro.net).

Log output from your bot from connection up until it gets the boot might help.

What bot are you using - the Synchronet IRC bot, or something else?

    What's your bot's nick (Outwest-Bot?), and what's its 'real_name' setting, if any?

Is your bot connecting from whatever address outwestbbs.com resolves to?

Mine is missing because I cannot get JSEXEC to run own its own (thread around here somewhere on that)

hopefully after rebooting the machince all issues will be over.. if not.. I'll bug Rob some more..

    irc.synchro.net channel #synchronet

Channel doesn't really matter, and irc.synchro.net might land you on one server or another.

    just using hexchat.

That's confusing, since you started by asking about an IRC bot.

Here's the best I can offer with the data available to me:

My log shows you occasionally connect to the network with 'root' in the 'real name' your IRC client sends. This may be something your IRC client derivges from the account you're logged into the OS with.

A default K-line in ircd.conf has the hostmask '~root@*'. This shouldn't have affected you - however, one server on the network has an altered version, '*root@*', which would have affected you if you connected to that server.

Try altering your 'real name' or 'username' settings (not your nick) so that 'root' is not at the end of it. Or try connecting to a specific server instead of just irc.synchro.net; my server probably won't kill you: ecbbs.synchro.net, port 10090.

Ahhhh, yes you are correct! everytime i would log on it would say that logging on as root is dangerous are you sure you want to continue, Lol
since I was using my $2.50 per month VPS that is root.
I will use my PI3 to log in from my home ip.
thank you for reminding me about being root.
