the drop file that is its not going anywhere near my nodes dir it is linking
d: to my root dir and of course its not finging my drop files there so what

If you happen to be running Ubuntu 16whatever I can give you a fully
working dosemu setup you just drop in. it includes the /etc/dosemu
config files and the .dosemu directory that goes in /sbbs/ctrl

It might work for other operating systems too. Drop me an netmail and
    we'll figure something out.

I hate to say, but it seems like you may skipped over some of the tutorial, the setup is pretty straightforward.

no, not at all.. sounds like something surely is borked somewhere.. I ran up0 on a good tutorial online somwhere to get DosEMU/Freedos working with sbbs and I followed it step by step and besides a few hiccups at firs it worked perfectly, now I can just about install ANY door under dosemu as long as I follow the basic rules.. it alsmost sounds as if you have a screwed over install of dosemu itself. what does it do when you run dosemu standalone from the cli?

I'll try to dig that tutorial up..

and one stupid question.. did you add USE_DOSEMU=1 to your make command?

I cannot fin the tutorial I used, but the one in the wiki is just, if not more informative.

    http://wiki.synchro.net/howto:dosemu

Good luck.. please don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions.

    http://www.endofthelinebbs.com/dosemu.tgz

Assuming you have /sbbs setup, drop the file in your root directory
    and extract it

    The file contains

/etc/dosemu/ - These are the dosemu config files that work for me /sbbs/ctrl/.dosemu/ - These are the directories that contain working
    dosemu with autoexec.bat and config.sys
/sbbs/ctrl/emusetup.bat - This is used by sbbs to load the fossil
    driver
    /sbbs/xtrn/dosutils/ - Contains the x00.exe fossil driver

I've copied Pro Golf if you want to test it.

    www.endofthelinebbs.com/GOLF.ZIP

    mkdir /sbbs/xtrn/progolf
Extract the GOLF.ZIP in that directory
run the following to start dosemu

    HOME=/sbbs/ctrl/ QUIET=1 DOSDRIVE_D=/sbbs/node1/ /usr/bin/dosemu.bin -f/etc/dosemu/dosemu.conf

    Once in DOSEMU

    lredir E: linux\fs\sbbs\xtrn

    e:
    cd \progolf

    run setup

Select 3 for GAP or WILDCAT

Fill in your details and when it comes to path and filename enter
    d:\door.sys

Now you'll need to copy golf.cfg to golf1.cfg golf2.cfg etc for the
number of nodes that you have.

    type exitemu

Now in scfg create a new external door

    Name: Pro Golf
    Internal Code: PROGOLF
    Startup Dir: /sbbs/xtrn/progolf
    Command Line: GOLF.EXE GOLF%#.CFG
    Multiple Concurrent: Yes
    No for everything else
BBS Drop File Type: Gap DOOR.SYS
choose whether to use real names or not, and then I choose lowercase
    names.

Save, and you should be good. Fingers crossed.

    Hi
Well the dosemu seems to be working i think the only prob I had is sometime when i run edit.com it would crash the emu but i belive i found that prob
with some help from another sysop had something to do with how it was
writeing to the screen i got it working with the help from another sysop.

ok let me know if u do find that tutorial i would like to see it if u do.

and about the USE_DOSEMU=1 yes i did usee that switch when i installed sbbs

i do have a weird thing going on with dosemu tho know that i think about it
it seems to be droping off letters from dir like if i make a dir called bre
and have the baths set up right with e: as the doors path it wouild say the
dir is there but when i change to it it would be like e:\re or even e:\e
and i have removed the dosemu a couple time thinking the same thing that something was worng but still can't get it to work right but if i make the
e: the sbbs dir itsalf and change to the other dir from there the dir seem
to work ya i know weird i have a few more things to try but thats where im
at thanks let me know if u have any other thoughts.

If you happen to be running Ubuntu 16whatever I can give you a fully working dosemu setup you just drop in. it includes the /etc/dosemu config files and the .dosemu directory that goes in /sbbs/ctrl

It might work for other operating systems too. Drop me an netmail

    we'll figure something out.

Assuming you have /sbbs setup, drop the file in your root directory

Can you give me some tips on making other doors work with your setup files? I used your instructions and have the pro golf door working fine...

It's pretty much the same routine. Download the zip file into an
xtrn/whatever directory and look at the instructions. Some will
require you to run a setup command. Some may need files for each node
or you have to setup the nodes in the setup file. Just run the setup
in dosemu the same as you did for progolf.

Then you need to find the command to execute the door. Usually you
will need to specify where the door.sys file and you'll need to
specify the node number in scfg.

OK. Since I'm a nice guy, try boxcars.

    mkdir /sbbs/xtrn/boxcars

grab the zip file and unzip it in that directory

    www.endofthelinebbs.com/BOX101.ZIP

edit NODES.CFG and create a [NODEx] entry for each node you have on
your system. Just duplicate NODE1 for NODE2 NODE3 etc... We don't have
NODE0 in SBBS so no need to bother with that. So I have NODE1 through
    to NODE10

    [NODE1]
    DROPFILE=d:\door.sys
    IRQ=
    ADDRESS=
    LOCKEDBPS=
    FOSSIL=
    DIGIBOARD=

Now you can make config changes to BOXCARS.CFG if you want. I didn't
    make any changes.

    Now in scfg

    Name: Boxcars
    Internal Code: BOXCARS
    Startup dir: ../xtrn/boxcars
    Command Line: BPXCARS.EXE %#
    Multiple concurrent users: YES

    Setup drop file as before.

Recycle bbs and you should be good.

I sent you an email. It'll be easier to deal with there since you can

Marisa tried it on her system which, I think, is Ubuntu the same as
mine and it worked so there maybe some Debian oddity going on.

For those following along, Terry got going ok. There were a few things
    that needed to be done.

I had him install the ansi-bbs tic file and make sure that both of
    these were in sbbs.ini

    ExternalTermDumb=dumb
    ExternalTermANSI=ansi-bbs

    Also

    DOSemuPath=/usr/bin/dosemu.bin

DM and Deuce also helped me determine there was a bug in xtrn.cpp
    which is now fixed.

Do not start sbbs if you have a shell with xforwarding enabled
otherwise dosemu tries to start xwindowed and complains. this can be
avoided by adding -t to the dosemu invocation line created in sbbs but
that'll require a code fix. Easy enough but just don't do it and it
    won't be a problem.

Finally, rather than using the linux unzip command, install UNZIP.EXE
and use that in dosemu to uncompress any door files. This avoids any compatability issues between unix and dos file types.

I hope this helps other people trying to get dosemu to work.
