Just a heads up too, as far as I know you're still using Debian, so you're behind the latest stable stuff. It seems the latest packages of ncurses have seriously messed things up in regards to ANSI type displays, like scfg, echocfg, umonitor, even things like Golded.
I believe this started occurring here somewhere around ncurses-6.0+20170902. The previous version Archlinux provided was ending in 0527, which still worked fine without any helpers.
Now I have to run everything with tmux in order for all these programs to display properly. So I'm not sure if it's something they changed that you can adapt to in the future, but figured I'd give you some forewarning.
There has only been one person I know of that is using the same version as me (even newer, afaik), but he does linux from scratch with the bare necessities. So maybe there's something that's conflicting with ncurses causing these issues, I don't know about. However, 0527 was the last version I didn't need a helper program, and now I have to use tmux for everything with an ANSI type display.
Note: Using scfg or any of your programs with the -iF switch seems to still work for the most part, and the -iA mode kinda works, but has some ugly yellow in it that I don't care to look at. Obviously -iX doesn't work here as I don't have X installed. -iC is completely off the charts, though, which is what I usually used and what I *think* is used by default?
I also remember an SDL mode, but that doesn't seem to be available anymore, unless you moved that to the -v option, which I've never used.
The whole SDL and curses thing is really Deuce's domain. I'll dig
around and see what I can find though.

It's possible that when you built it you didn't have the necessary SDL libraries, so it just excluded the support automatically (it does
that).
