Hello Rob!

Quick question. In the services.ini, under NNTP, do you use the HOST key to change the default domain address to say a sub-domain. Example:

My normal domain is: tequilamockingbirdonline.net

Using that address I can access the NNTP server on port 119.

Here is my question...

If I use the following:

HOST=news.tequilamockingbirdonline.net

Will it then use that domain if I point a newreader to it on port 119?

No. You'd need to use DNS to setup a sub-domain.

The "HOST" key limits which hosts run that service on a multi-hosted Synchronet system (mine). You probably won't use that setting:

; Host (default: unspecified) - only run on the specified hostname

Syou have to set up as a service (SRV) in your zone record..

example:

Name:

nntp

target:

@

protocol:

_tcp

priority:

1

Weight:

0

TTL

1/2 hour.


This is using Godaddy, Results may vary...


Or im sure theres a way to setup under linux and possibly even your router depending on their options.

I understand that.... and I have. Problem is, I have the server setup as DMZ for all ports therefore in my router there is an issue as it won't allow me to duplicate the ports to another domain (sub in this case). I don't want to change the actual port number as it is a standard.

But both hostnames point to the same IP address:

So... I'm not really sure what you're trying to achieve.
