    Hello Sysops out there in the dark. ;-)

    My name ist Juergen (aka elwood), I'm 49 years old an write from "Bodensee" Germany. In the early 90th I ran a BBS wird Tornado Software called "X-File BBS".

    It is great, that there are BBS out there!

    At first, I must setup my bbs, which you ran reach at:
    dosnetz.goip.de at port 1023

    So, first question, because wiki dont say anything about that:
    The file \text\ip.can with the unanswered IP adresses. How must I put the IP Adresses in that file:
    Like this:
    --------------------snipp
    1.24.0.0/13 1.48.0.0/15 .....
    --------------------snapp

    or must I write the IPs in one column like:
    --------------------snipp
    1.24.0.0/13
    1.48.0.0/15
    36.248.0.0/14
    ......
    ......
    ......
    --------------------snapp

    I'm pretty sure it's the second - one ip filter per line.

    Like this:

    ; Enter filtered (disallowed) IP addresses in this file
    ; Wildcard characters (*, ^, ~) are allowed and ! negates the match

    one ip address per line.

    Hi Deepthaw,

    I think also, is like the iptables blocklists from linux, one host or subnet each line. Up To now I have > 3500 lines in ip.can. I took the lists from here www.wizcrafts.net.

    I have change the telnet port to 1023, because there are to much hacker scripts on the way to kick the login of the bbs. Totally annoying.

    So, now I have to get used to the software. On which Windows Host (WINXP/Win8/Win10) most sysops have their BBS? I run at the moment on Windows 10 64-bit, but I get the impression, that will be not funny for me.

    I haven't seen too much of that (I get plenty of failed login / hack attempts at port 23, but they haven't caused any outages, downtime, or other problem yet. Maybe once I officially advertise that'll change.)

    I'm probably an outlier but I'm running mine in Windows Server 2003. I did this because it's the last Windows Server that'll run 16-bit applications natively. I did this to avoid having to mess with DOSbox to run my door games. Which ceased being an issue once I found out about bbslink.net, but I'm too lazy to migrate my install now (and I still might want to run some locally hosted games.)

    i don't know about "most" but we run ours on linux... we do not allow mission critical ops to be done on m$ systems...
