You probably have already imported and added all the areas in another library.

Heh i wish it was that, i finally figured it out, seems it may be a linux syncrhonet thing, when i tell it to import filegate.zxx it seems to be takeing the very last area and adding it, then it won't add anymore till i go to that area and add a directory to it and then save, then i can import again and it will add the next one .... so im adding file areas one at the time right now pulling my hair out lol

    That's weird....

When you first created the library, did you name a parent directory? I know Rob is on vacation right now but I'd post a message to him letting him know what you're dealing with.

I tried it here on my Pi and you're right, it imports all the areas in the filegate.zxx but only 1 saved. Strange...

If filegate.zxx doesn't match the format of fidonet.na, this is why there is a problem trying to import. I don't think Synchronet has ever known what filegate.zxx is/was. Is that something Janis decided to do on her own dime?

I don't know of much software out there that knows what filegate.zxx is. I think when I originally ran into the same issues, I just changed the format to match fidonet.na (apparantly much more widely used) style and it imported just fine.

If filegate.zxx doesn't match the format of fidonet.na,

it does not... never has... it has always been in RAID format...

this is why there is a problem trying to import.

i would imagine so but it is possible that it might recognise it... it needed to be clarified, though...

I don't think Synchronet has ever known what filegate.zxx is/was. Is
that something Janis decided to do on her own dime?

janis is the founder of the Filegate FDN network... most traditional FTN file processing software recognises the RAID format... at least for importing as it carries flags indicating what settings apply to an area... most all are inbound
only... hatching is done by sending the file(s) to the admin for that FDN and they hatch them into the area they belong in... these settings are indicated in
the 2nd or 3rd column in the format...

I don't know of much software out there that knows what filegate.zxx
    is.

it is .zxx as a trick... instead of being numbered like the nodelist, she just uses .zxx... all of my file processing software works directly with it and is updated automatically any time a new one is sent out adding or removing an area
    or updating an existing entry...

I think when I originally ran into the same issues, I just changed the format to match fidonet.na (apparantly much more widely used) style
    and it imported just fine.

depending on what one is looking for, sure... filegate.zxx is for file processing software, really... it would be good if it could also be used to adjust BBS file areas as well... the format isn't that hard and at that point, adding the capability to ticit to use this file as the master list for file areas pulled from system x:y/z, for example, would possibly be a GoodThing<tm>... then it would know whether to forward requests from their downlinks for areas or not ;)

Only thing weird is that files with a .z?? extension usually indicates a zipped file (in PKZIP format), but not in this case. When I first saw the reference to filegate.zxx, I assumed it was actually a zip file.

    Rob,

im trying to import the fileareas via filegate.zxx and scfg just saying " of areas imported (0 added)"

What format is the .zxx file?

It's a regular ASCII textfile...basically the IFDC FileGate Project
File Echo List. It used to be called FILEBONE.N* (such as FILEBONE.NA
for the North American file areas).

I tried it here on my Pi and you're right, it imports all the areas in the filegate.zxx but only 1 saved. Strange...

It was a recent regression in the file area import feature. It's now
    fixed in CVS.

    Thank you sir!!
