• HTML5 Web Log In

From Vtachrn@1:103/705 to All on Fri Jun 16 16:30:44 2017
    Hi Everyone,

    New SysOP here. HeliconBBS.DDNS.net

I am working on the web interface and Ftelnet connection. I am running into a problem where nothing is showing up on the web page where the Ftelnet/HTML5 terminal should be. Well let me restate that. A few friends that are not so tech savy are having issues if they do not have flash enabled in the browser.

I have ecweb 3 installed. I am trying to figure out that if the user does not have flash enabled, should the BBS web page fall back to a HTML5 browser log in?

Fogive the questions, I am not a coder, but can follow instructions for editing code and working with sniplets.
    Regards,

    Doug (KC7FQB)

HTML5 is a newer technology, so I had thought if the user is not using a fully HTML5-capable browser, it would try to fall back to Flash. I believe HTML5 is fairly well supported and has been for a few years, but I'm wondering if they happen to be using a fairly old web browser that doesn't support HTML5 well enough, and perhaps it's trying to fall back to Flash but not working as you mention because Flash isn't installed..?

take the high road... don't mess with flash at all... just do the HTML5 thing... it is a whole lot safer... flash is trash and is going away soon-ish... it is really surprising that it is even still in use with all of its security flaws...

I am a little foggy on how to get rid of Fterm and use HtlmTerm on the web page for login. I would be happy to ditch flash and just use HTML5.

I tried experimenting with Chrome and blocked Flash. The terminal login screen (Fterm) was not displayed but then again neither was anythign else. No HTML5 (HTML-Term) was displayed either. I am running Synchronet 3.16c with ECWEB 3.

I have managed to download Synchronet 3.17 and ECWEB 4. Should I just upgrade? Any idea on how I can get the HTML TERM to display?

Ill get the hang of it with a little help.

    Respectfully,

    Doug, KC7FQB
