    It's something with the latest version of openssh

    try ssh -m hmac-md5 user@host

    Not currently.

    I'm still curious as to why you're using cryptlib rather then openssl. openssl comes standard on most Linux systems these days so you wouldn't need to worry about another library.

    Well, firstly, I didn't make the choice, Deuce did. But I suspect it's probably because OpenSSL doesn't do SSH.
