Hello All,
I've been looking around, but can't figure out if there is a way to force a slower baud rate either for the entire BBS or for specific external door games. I know some games allow you to pass the baud to them on the command line, but not all do and I would like to slow them down so they work correctly. I did try one game that allows the rate to be passed, but it didn't seem to work and the drop file still shows a higher rate so maybe the file was overriding the command line in that situation... but anway, has anyone figured this out??

If you're using TCP/IP protocols to access your BBS, there is no actual "baud rate" in effect (unless you have a physical serial port in the path somewhere). You can simulate a baud rate on the client side (e.g. SyncTERM), which works pretty good. But if the server sends more slowly, it usually just means you end up with a bigger inter-packet delay and the text just shows up in chunks (each packet) at the client.
Most people want their door games to run faster, not slower. :-)

I wasn't sure if SBBS could control the display rate, other than ANSI using @-codes, or not, but thank you for the detailed answer. :)

Well, I'm not most people lol and I don't mean all of them, just the ones with cool ansimation that zips by so fast you can't tell what it was. I have some friends and family that have no clue what it is they missed or how to use the features in SyncTerm so I was hoping we could control the speed, display rate etc.. Bummer.

If they are using SyncTERM, and you can edit the files on your end (i.e. they aren't hard-coded in the door game), then you could embed the special ANSI codes that SyncTERM supports to adjust the display rate. That's a lot of if's.
For more details, see "Set the output emulation speed" at http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/src/conio/cterm.txt

the comm rate has nothing to do with the processing rate... sounds like you have old stuff that's zooming along... maybe you should try something like mo'slo or one of those types of processor delaying tools... but you certainly can't control the speed of a door by telling it a different comm rate... this because both sides have to talk the same speed and you only control one side...
