• Message Crossposting/Gati

    From Daryl Stout@1:103/705 to KK4QBN on Thu Aug 3 19:34:00 2017
    Tim,

Daryl Please check your message area setup, you are gating BBSLinkNet to FTN K>and vice versa, and your system is crossposting messages from BBSLink: All K>Other Gaming systems. to RWN (Hovies).

Somehow the nodes MOJO and HURRICAN have gotten in somwhere down the line als K>I don't exactly WHO is doing the crossposting, but I can guarantee by killing K>TBOLTS feed for the time being, the crossposting will end.

Please guys, get this fixed.. I've been tring to get by without pulling K>access.. but the crossposts are getting to bad.

I thought it was fixed...is it still screwed up??

If it is, I'll drop all 3 networks...or maybe just switch the BBS to a
hybrid system...and have local message networks only.

    Daryl

Daryl, you should'nt have to drop the networks, there is just crossposting going on somwhere..

    (1) set your BBSLink conferences as Dynamic and not static and do not hub them to anyone else.. from the qnet link it appears that you are hubbing that message are to MOJO/ who in turn is hubbing it to HURRICAN or vice/versa.. and somweher in the mix it is getting gated..

At the moment I have deactivated your Qwknet acount until it gets sorted.. it could possuble be MOJO or HURRICAN that is gating the are, but by cutting your feed it keeps the messages out of the network.

BBSLinkNet should not be served and or gated by ANYONE but myself and any other hub I may allow to hub. that way I can keep tighter control over what the messages are doing..

Please get with MOJO and HURRICAN and see what is going on. once yall get sorted, let me know and I will turn your fed back on.

We don;t want you to leave. you are an intergal part of the network!

It's still messed up. We don't think you're the cause of the issue, you just happen to be the point closest to the hub that the messages are passing through.

If it is, I'll drop all 3 networks...or maybe just switch the BBS to
a hybrid system...and have local message networks only.

You might be able to help us monitor what's going on, and track down the real cause. I for one am pretty sure you're not the root cause of the problem.

First question, are you acting as a hub and feeding QWK traffic to MOJO on BBSlinknet? It looks as though you are, from the QWK path headers. Of course, you may not be aware, if you carry multiple QWK nets - this is the reason I use a more complex set of permissions for my QWK networking - only those nodes I've given explicit permission for can take a feed from me for a specific network, even if they're a QWK account. If you want to go down that road, I'm happy to go through the setup on Synchronet.

FYI, I'm working alongside KK4QBN to get to the bottom of this.

It is quite easy to be an accidental hub, if you carry multiple QWKnets and are a hub for at least one of them. QWK accounts have access to all QWKnets by default. I use the 2x series of flags to prevent this - I have to specifically enable access to a QWKnet, before a QWK account can link up.

At the moment I have deactivated your Qwknet acount until it gets sorted.. it K>could possuble be MOJO or HURRICAN that is gating the are, but by cutting you K>feed it keeps the messages out of the network.

I thought I had fixed the issue. I found the glitch at my
end...somehow, one of the message groups had a corrupted area, and it
was set up from another network. But, it's like preparing a
document...you can't see the error, unless a second pair of eyes spots
it. That's what my late wife did for me many times...her eyesight was
worse than mine, but she found errors in bulletins, screens, etc. that I missed!!

We don;t want you to leave. you are an intergal part of the network!

Well, if I'm creating problems, I don't need to stay in here, if I
    can't get them fixed.

FYI, I'm working alongside KK4QBN to get to the bottom of this.

I appreciate that. To my knowledge, I had found what I thought was the glitch, and corrected it...but apparently, I have not.

So many of these message networks have identical numbers with QWK
Networking conferences, or identical names. With adding an external
label with Synchronet, that mitigates the problem some, but not for all
of it. For the file areas over here, I'm not using a external tag with
    the designated mesage board.

Unfortunately, with a stormy weather pattern here the rest of the
week, I'm going to get very little BBS work done. I'm just processing
the mail tonight...everything else has to wait.

The conference numbers only apply on the server you're posting to. Two BBSs can use the same conference numbers, but they will be different on your end. For example, on BBSlinknet, the conferences start at 9001 on KK4QBN, but for anyone taking a feed from me, the numbers start at 1500 (each 6000 higher than on KK4QBN), because my groups are arranged differently.

I have my QWKnets setup to serve, but they are subject to flags, so QWK users have to not only register with me, but also tell me what nets they want to take a feed of. Some, like DOVE, I can just turn on at the sysop's request (I had that conversation with DM ages ago), others require the sysop to fill in an application and send it to the relevant net owner, who will pass on the details to me, before I'll turn that group on.

Same here, especially as I'm out so much, and sometimes storms come out of the blue. Not all of our weather systems generate thunderstorms. Some fronts are so dry, we get maybe a cloud or two and a gusty wind change, and I have even seen clear blue skies with just the change.

Same here, especially as I'm out so much, and sometimes storms come out of the blue. Not all of our weather systems generate thunderstorms. Some fronts are so dry, we get maybe a cloud or two and a gusty wind change, and I have even seen clear blue skies with just the change.

Thats the way T-storms have been here lately.. the forecasted storms sually don;t have lightening harsh enough to deal with.. the ones I need to worry about look like they have been created by HAARP.

Oh, OK. :) For me, the storm to worry about is the firestorm. :)

HAHHAA!! Gymnastics? what, you trying to kill me? I would die.. I'm about 5 FT nothing and almost as wide.. nah.. I've actually got my weight down to a managable level, but I really do need to get some disc decompression, I think that would really help a lot.. And I'm trying my best to walk at least 2+ miles daily (with the help of my beagle on a rabbit trail of course). My health is better now than it has been in the past 10 years, So I shall not complain too much.. I know people going through much worse..

I think you need a good vacation, or maybe even to locate to a nice temperate beach somewhere.. We most of the time get the same storm tracks you do so I understand the t-storms, It's almost like there is one every other day.. I guess we're in that perfect spot where the northern front meets the tropical systems. It has almost become a mini tornado ally down here in the last 10 years we've had a few devistating ones all around us, (knock on wood) seems crazy but I kinda feel the two "mountains" our valley sits between spares us, because all the bad ones hit just on the north or south side of these mountains.

We do get straight line winds though.. and sometimes I believe they can be worse.

Yeah, probably almost 15 years of serious work, from when I got into orienteering (actually ARDF, initially, but most forms soon after), so around 5 years of orienteering, and distance running for 7 years, before leaving the big smoke and getting into more sprint oriented sports in the last 7 years, which are better suited to my makeup.

I did have a quiet period from 1992 - 2003, where I really didn't do anything other than a lot of walking, mostly for transport purposes or to clear the head during a lunch break. Before 1992 was a wide range of sport :)
