When logging in via the web page I login with my primary id which is the sysop level and then I have access to games etc.

When selecting a game from page it asks me for my administrator password, sometimes requiring me to enter it twice. At first I thought I was doing a typo but then purposely went slowly and same thing happened. About the third game I tried it said invalid password and I couldn't play the game.

Not a problem when I login as a normal user.

Is there a way to disable not asking for that password on the sysop?

Yep, I'm aware of this one and will try to sort it out at some point. My guess is that fTelnet is sending something to the server right after connecting, and it's going into that input prompt. Easiest way to work around it right now is to hit backspace a bunch of times before entering your system password.

Yes, this should only normally affect sysops.

Is there a way to disable not asking for that password on the sysop?

Not that I'm aware of, and if there was I wouldn't recommend it.

Did you see any output from the doors in fTelnet before this happened?

Yes, the first screen asking for any key press and nothing.

Is it the same two doors that do this consistently, but not any others?

It is all the card games, dos 16bit games.

If you have fTelnet on your home page, does the same thing happen if you connect from there and then launch the games from your external programs menu?

Logging in from the web it does it but I found out that the first game run works, no hangup. They try another game and the screen output happens but is waiting for a key press and hitting enter or any key does nothing.

But if I refresh the page and then select the game it works just fine.

So something to do with fTelnet. I did get the latest version about a month ago when you released ecweb4.

I think that is a synchronet thing Ruben, as the old Ruinmaster Web pages do that also, at least mine does. I think its built in security so no one can hack the sysop account

If you have a system password set, it will always prompt anyone with sysop access for that system password when logging in. If you do not want this, you can try to set SCFG > System > Password to a blank value. But that may also disable prompting for a system password everywhere else.

I also noticed this, but if the only person seeing this is myself, I'm not worried about it.

it isn't when he logs in... it is when he selects a game... that makes me wonder how he has that game set up as compared to other games that do not ask for that system password...

He's selecting the game from a list in the web UI. This causes fTelnet to open a new connection to the BBS, which requires authentication to the rlogin server.

For most users, this is a nearly seamless process and the authentication happens without their needing to do anything. For sysops, this is like any other connection to the terminal server, and they must supply the system password if one is set.

With the default setup for ecwebv4, you need to be logged in as a user in order

to play games. He has already mentioned that it only happens when he's logged in, and not when a regular user is. So I just kinda put two and two together.

RLogin has ALWAYS been this way, back in the Warzone BBS days I ran a linux system, then an NT based RLOGIN system for my BBS and others that could not host their own games, even had a makeshift webform, and Bajascript for users of other systems to create a rudementary account on the RLOGIN system so the transition was seamless from my system to others.

Which got me thinkig, for InterBBS play, it would be cool to have some networked DB of login names from people in the leagues and have a database that stores ALL the games of EVERY system who has the new RLOGIN services, and every system could thn have a LOCAL games pages and a NETWORKED games page with hundreds of games to access. and this all can be accomplished I believe with everything EC has already written.

no its off topic from his question.. but whe crap pops up like that I must get it out.. I might start working on some project like this, and make sure it don't break anything. I presume userdata can be shared via JSON or even by using QWK call ins with sysop access only to that data echo. but make sure data has some kind of encyryption. all you would really need for an rlogin account:

    Real Name:
    Handle:
    Password:
Sex for some games.. but that really can be left off.

Not sure if it's exactly what you're describing, but CoA as well as DoorParty and BBSLink all offer a nice selection of games. All you have to do is link your BBS and you and your users have access to them. Kind of like big networked

Not sure if it's exactly what you're describing, but CoA as well as DoorParty and BBSLink all offer a nice selection of games. All you have to do is link your BBS and you and your users have access to them. Kind of like big networked door game sections, without the need to transfer game packets to dozens of BBSs.

Game packets will not be transferred, and no, have'nt heard of these untul EC pointed them out yesterdat to me. But what I'm speaking of is the same principle except instead of a centralized RLOGIN server ANY SBBS with the rlogin function can serve, there would have to be only update packets of login info sent to each server, or maybe not even that, when a user chooses a game from a particular BBS, their USERNAME and a random password is sent to that system and permanent, maybe even temporary login credentials are made for that user.

It would give users a chance to play on many different LORD games, etc like ones with tons of IGMS, or vanilla ones, or ones that have 200 forest fights a day.. or a TEOS game that has 100 planets, etc..

as EC said there would be a few hurdles to get around, and thats mainly sending user PASSWORDS to other bbs systems, but if those passwords are randomized every time and a TEMPORARY username/password is created on the system and deleted afterward, the only other issue would be having two people with the same username, if they use that username on other rlogin systems they could play anothers game. But that can be fixed by having ONE centralized UN/PW server, when user runs the app (door) on their home BBS if they are a new user, they are asked to create a profile, than that profile will sit on a server, and info will be passed from it to the other systems that would take out the fear of someone stealing anothers games. and you could even mirror the central DB server so if it is down, it will go to the next..

Longshot? too much to process.. lol I used to run a rlogin server like mentioned above that was very successfull until a storm took it out, and I'm sure it pissed MANY people off as much as it did me.. thats why I dont like the idea of a centralized game server like this. and I also cannot STAND LORDNET, etc.. The game packet deal is "alright" I guess, but you know as well as I do that the primary setup, and maint is just too much for some to handle, really I just hate FTN style BBS gaming. and it seems like it is just dying out.. there are also less active systems then there were when I had Warzone up, but still.. SBBS has so much new interbbs communications potentials that everything can happen in real time, no more waiting for message polls, etc.. not that theres anything wrong with waiting up to 48 hours to get all your game data in over an FTN style network because someones system decides to fart out on them somewhere.

Just an idea.. something I KNOW I would'nt be able to write the code for myself, not right now at least. maybe at a later date. :-)

Installed latest version. Everything working great. Tried some of my doors and they worked and was able to go to next game without refreshing the screen. (using the web) But a couple of my doors looked like they hung up. So I logged in via telnet and they worked just fine. Went back and logged in via the web and same doors acted like the locked up. Looked at sbbs on the server and saw the door was waiting for the key press and I was able to run the door from the sbbs machine. So for some reason it is not displayed on the client machine, like the info wasn't passing the socket info.

Did you see any output from the doors in fTelnet before this happened?

So I logged in via telnet and they worked just fine. Went back and logged in via the web and same doors acted like the locked up. Looked at sbbs on the server and saw the door was waiting for the key press and I was able to run the door from the sbbs machine. So for some reason it is not

Is it the same two doors that do this consistently, but not any others?

When this happens, is there any indication in your services log that the WebSocketRLogin connection has closed, or are there any errors there related to that service?

If you have fTelnet on your home page, does the same thing happen if you connect from there and then launch the games from your external programs menu?
