DLL means Dynamic Linked Library ;)
I heard of this woman (she might have been a blonde! <G>), who had
taken her computer into the shop, as it wouldn't boot up. She said she
was running out of disk space, so she deleted "the pickle files". What
she deleted were the DLL's -- no wonder her system wouldn't boot up!! :P

I'm wondering how that person figured out how to find all the DLLs on the N>system.. And I'm sure it wouldn't allow deleting all of them, since some of N>them must have been in use as Windows was running..
There are lots of stories like this though.. There's another I've often hear N>of where someone called customer support because their computer's "cup holder N>broke - The "cup holder" was actually the disc tray of the CD-ROM drive.
I was at an Egghead Software store one day a long time ago (when they still N>existed), and I heard someone returning a PC game. They said it wouldn't wor N>on their system because it didn't have "DirectX or something". Funny thing i N>that was always a free download from Microsoft.. Perhaps their system's N>DirectX was out of date - they probably just needed to download & install the N>latest one (and perhaps the game didn't come with it).
If you have a more current version of DirectX (I think it's now 11,
but I'm not sure), but software says you need to install an older
version, do you just quit the process?? Some of these programs won't let you continue the installation without it, even if it's an older version.

I think DirectX is generally backwards-compatible. Or you can probably have multiple versions installed on your system.

I dont think so. So if, MS have to be installes a DirectX switcher...DirectX is the API to a lot of multimedia progs: 2D, 3D, Joystick, Audio and a lot of input devices. With this in mind, there can only be one god in a system. :-) THX & greetz

I've heard similar, except it was a woman who had just bought a new computer TL>and couldn't get the "foot switch" to work. Obviously, she was used to usin TL>sewing machine. :)

Good one. :) But, I've known ham radio operators who have "a foot switch" in their shack, as it frees up their hand for logging.
