I always wanted to try to send an ansi bomb or something.. depending on what K>device it is.. like rokus can be remotely controlled via telnet anyway.. or a K>least send the ownwer of the IOT device a message telling them their device h K>been compromised..

Years ago, a user uploaded a program, which was a harmless TSR. Every
certain number of keystrokes, you'd get a few seconds of ANSI graphics,
such as:

1) A clown sticking his tongue in and out.
2) A flashing sign saying GET BACK TO WORK!!
3) Another sign saying THE BOSS IS BEHIND YOU!!



Unfortunately, I lost it in a crash a long time ago.

As a side note, PKWARE released a TSR called PKSFANSI -- it prevented
ANSI bombs from remapping ones keyboard.

I was mean at 11 or 12 years old. I created a trojan called MR SMILES that masquraded as a childs game. but when ran it would do ansi animation of a demon smiling at you, as it was doing that, it would 0 byte write yur HDD, starting with the most iimportant files, it would also try to find a way to spread across networks.

I believe its well beyond the statute of limitations on that, but my friend showed me a newspaper clipping speaking of a "Game" that had an evil smile that wiped out a certain amount of computer of a 3 letter agengy that I will not name.. coincidence? maybe.. I dunno..

I wrote the program in QB, and it was so simple, there were no virus scanners that would pic it up as malwawre, etc.. whoever the idiot at that agency that run it really shou'nt had access to a computer.. because I made the program show the progress of what it was doing to your system as it did.. and if let it run long enough for it to spread, he either did it on purpose, or.. ws just plain stupid..

it will fill everything up with 0 byte. it would start with 1 "0" then goto 2, then 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, until infinity, or the end of the drive, whatever came first.

I even wrote a "hint" in there on how to get out.. but it still did the damage..

I'm going to look for that article.

I did try my hand at a Trojan as well. It was the mid 1980s and the first digital porn images were starting to circulate, not only in .GIF (before .JPG took over), but there were some creative .EXE files of an adult nature around too, so I called my creation "PORNO.EXE" and left it lying around. Needless to say, it did attract attention! :)

It presented itself as a dummy, telling the user they were sucked in, then quit. But it left a little TSR behind that hooked the keyboard interrupt. When the interrupt was called for the first time since, it started a timer of random value between 2 and 5 minutes, then rebooted the PC. Back in those times, just enough time to load something up, but not to cause significant data loss (it was written to be a gag, not totally malicious).

However, it did have a couple of other modes that were selectable by command line switches, a "quiet mode" that simply cleared the screen when it exited, and an extended timer (20-50 minutes), which was the more evil option. Even caught myself out once with that one! oops. :)

I should sue Microsoft, because a few years later, Windows 3.x sometimes demonstrated exactly the same traits! :D
