• Virus Scanners

    Tim,

I agree fully.. the only virus scanners I run are CMDLINE scanners.. nothing K>resident.

I used to run a command line version of McAfee, and F-Prot...but I
don't think there are any of those left that are still being updated.

    Elwood,

Okay, the virus scanner periodically scans the filebase, or upload directory?

It should scan where you tell it to scan.

That's when I had the command line scanners of McAfee and F-Prot. The programs are still around, but only for Windows based systems.

I've used other virus scanners in the past, including CA Internet Security...but currently use the IObit Malware Fighter, with its
anti-malware engine...plus the BitDefender anti-malware engine, and an anti-ransomware engine...all in one program.

    Hi Daryl,

    anti-ransomware engine...all in one program.
How is it possible to start all engines in one program? As a shell script or command line? How can the start of these programs automatically started
after the upload without having to intervene manually?

    Hi Daryl,

    Hi, Juergen,

    anti-ransomware engine...all in one program.

How is it possible to start all engines in one program? As a shell script or JI>command line? How can the start of these programs automatically started JI>after the upload without having to intervene manually?

The program starts all of them itself. I especially like it having its
own anti-malware engine, PLUS the BitDefender anti-malware engine, and
an anti-ransomware engine...the latter in light of all the systems that
    have been affected lately.

Besides the IOBit Malware Fighter, I use Smart DeFrag (it normally
will defragment things automatically), Advanced System Care (cleans up
bad registry entries, junk files, checks for security updates, etc.)
Driver Booster (makes sure all the drivers are up to date), and
Uninstaller (gets rid of unwanted programs, and deletes un-needed files
    and registry entries).

You can download free versions at www.iobit.com (they are mainly for
the Windows OS), but need to "register" them (they are commercialware)
to get the full features. However, at times, they have special deals,
where you can get 1 license covering 3 computers, for each
program...that's the deal I have. To me, the cost of registration (you
have to renew yearly) is well worth it.

The only IOBit Software item I don't use is one for iPhones...because
all I have is an Android.

My BBS was actually not infected, My virus software runs in the background and caught all the uploads of photo.scr and it actually deleted every copy.
    Avast is what I use.
anyway we all pretty much blocked uploading to our systems except for uploads to the sysop, I prefer to add all my own content anyway.

This was my bad. I switch from North Anti Virus to Comodo and Comodo sandboxe

I use the IObit Malware fighter myself. In the past, I've used McAfee, F-Prot, and CA Internet Security. But, I rarely get uploads, which
doesn't bother me. Yet, everything is still scanned...and I can report something as a false positive if need be. In fact, awhile back, the main Synchronet program was reported as infected, but it was a false
    positive.
