• Star Wars Episode VIII

So who is the last Jedi? Will it be Luke who was handed his light saber by
Rey or will it be someone else? I don't think that it was demostrated that
Rey had "The Force" and could be a Jedi. Also with the death of Carrie Fisher it is doubtful that Leia is the last Jedi. Disney has announced that they
will not CGI her image in future Star Wars film.

If Luke is not the last Jedi then his character will die in the next film.
Even Mark Hamill does not know. Hamill said "don't tell me these things I talk in my sleep." "They have us so jacked up with paranoia over leaks."

Fisher was returning from filming her role in the next Star Wars film now known as Episode VIII, The Last Jedi when she had her heart attack and later
    passed away.

I'm not sure WHO it is or even what the title means yet. :-) Could be
the story of Luke being the "last Jedi" - could be how Rey becomes the
last one that Luke will teach - could be something else entirely. :-)

    Exciting, though!

Really? Why not? She seemed to be to force sensitive.

If Luke is not the last Jedi then his character will die in the next
    film.

I think he will have to die at some point. I think he will be the 'older
mentor that passes on' at some point in the adventure. It's a staple - a
    trope for sure. :-)

Even Mark Hamill does not know.

Good! I want NO spoilers. If spoilers are going to be discussed here I
must stay out of this board. :-)

Well, the question is... what make someone a "Jedi". Is it just having
the mastery of the Force? Is it being part of the Jedi Order (which is
kinda defunct). I mean, I suppose Luke could be a Jedi because the last remaining Jedi told him he was. Does that let Luke confer that on
anyone? Is there someone else who's going to pop up?

Could Luke train Rey to use the Force but say "hey, let's let this Jedi
thing fade into history... just go out and kick butt and choke some bad beyotches" ?

(I have not followed discussions on this topic. I have not seen the
Force Awakens or Rogue One for that matter and anything I'm saying is
    just my musings or speculation).

(I know, it just became a "I'll go next weekend to see it" kind of thing
and next thing you know you blink and you're in your 40's and the next
    movie is coming out).

I think Luke let the traditional Jedi Order die. I think anyone seen as a "knight of the white" or "the light side" is called a Jedi.

I personally think Luke is "the last Jedi" and whatever Rey becomes will
be the next evolution, but I could be wrong. I think that's how Lucas
would have taken it, but now that Disney is in control they might try to
stick with formulas that work rather than stretch out the artistry.
