I took one job when I was 29 and told myself I'd get another in about six months. I was at that place place nearly 15 years. Working in wholesale produce.
That was something I loved about being a temp for several years from the mid 90s to January 2002.
If it were a lousy job I knew I would get another assignment easily. All I had to do was call the company and ask for a re-assignment. I don't think I ever did. I was really tempted a couple of times though.
When I left produce in '93 I found a part time job (a full time job at part time pay actually) and needing some supplemental income and started working in security, part time at university home games in 1994. The rest is history and still there, going to full time, retiring and back to part time.
I joked one year when I was newly retired and back to part time I was sent to work the FOP lot for home football games only by "Big Daddy" himself. The contract for the games was given to another company and I was the only one with
mine to work the games and joked "I started out part time at games and have come full circle and back where I started". (The owner of A1 is a cop in another town, big bald fella, whom I refer to as "Big Daddy", sometimes "Daddy Warbucks".) <g>

Both an encouragement to go ahead and do the job, and a deterrent from abusing your position... :)

There was one time a civilian employee and I were right and the head of parking, along with the chief of police, were wrong. They didn't care too much
for being shown wrong, but accepted it and the matter was dropped.
I think the only time I was reminded of a mistake I made was if I did something goofy then it was sort a joke we all laughed about later.
There was a time or two we had, as the leader of the chain gang in Cool Hand
Luke said, "What we have here is, failure to communicate".
The chief was great at that, he knew something and just assumed everyone else did. Not just with parking but with the cops as well.
Nothing really earthshaking, mostly little things that weren't passed along.

Was he parking illegally...? And figuring that it couldn't be traced to him since they were temp plates...?

Usually not paying for pay/metered lots, no permit, etc.
When it came to temporary/dealer/rental tags, we recorded the VIN as well. If it were followed up (generally had to in excess of a couple hundred dollars to make it worth while) the vehicle was traced back to the agency, who had records of who had the car on those dates. The dealer/rental company could be pressed for payment and they in turn to collect from the person who was in possession of the vehicle.
That happened a few times.

He must have collected quite a few tickets.... ;0

He owed in the upper hundreds, maybe over a thousand.
He told me one time he was never going to pay them and what was I going to do
about it? I told him my job was to write them, what he did was between him and
conscience. That burned him up, but nothing he could do about it. :)
