There seems to be a coffee shop on every corner around here. Most
are local places which try to be Starbuck knock offs. They offer the
same product with different names. I don't know how one could
patent a combination of coffee, creme and host of odd things.
I think all they can patent/copyright are the names they give the
    coffee drinks....

A place a group of us meet each Thursday morning has their own
"house blend". I joked one day they should change the name of the
place from River and Rails to "Maxwell's" and they could offer
Maxwell's house coffee". The young woman behind the counter gave me a strange look that was sort of a "huh?" to "he's caught on to us".

Hard to say whether their "house blend" was just the owners' favorite or
if they'd mixed their own various favorite beans into the brew... Or
maybe it was a "why didn't we think of that before?".... <G>

This last week was spring break on campus and I had to act a roamer
one day (giving breaks for the guys*, paperwork, etc) and noticed all
the dorms** now have coffee makers in the lobbies. And with the coffee maker and coffee were a half dozen varsities of flavourings in various size containers, both liquid and powder, along with "cream". (To me "cream" is taken off fresh milk, not in a powder or small packet).

There are some strange ideas out there as to what constitutes proper
additives to coffee.... I agree with you on the fakeness of the
    cream.... :)

(*Security work in the dorm is sort of a glorified hotel desk clerk: checking residents guests in and out, etc.

But it keeps you busy... and paid... <G>

(**While it was break, instead of moving the few students on campus
into one building the university for several years has kept a dorm open
if only one person in it. So they are not "disrupted". This goes for
the week of Thanksgiving and the month for Christmas as well).

Well, it does make sense to let the kids stay with their own stuff... :)
I can see both positions, though....

Joe (who like his plain black)
Richard does too... and doesn't like the flavored coffees either

When I was in college a group of us hung out in a small diner near
campus. One guy always confused the waitress, "Make mine black, with cream". :)

That would be confusing.... But I guess he wanted the cream on the
side...? Or was it just the lack of sugar that made it black for
    him...?

I, unfortunately, am allergic to coffee

    Horrors!

It was rather a sad thing to find out... I quite did enjoy my coffee
before that... black, like you and Richard....
