Older isn't a bad thing... can even be a thing of pride... even if one
hasn't anything to do with that either, really...
At one time elders were looked upon with respect. Now elders are
just in the way in too many cases. They were considered wiser, etc.
Of course people didn't live as long as today for a variety of
reasons. Being sixty was "old".
Depends on the context... some circles still look upon elders with
respect... It helps if they actually had managed to acquire wisdom along
the way, of course... :) We had a landlady once that had managed to
get old without gaining any wisdom... it was mostly sad... and an eye
opener for us...
And laugh in my sleeve when people persist in thinking me a
generation younger than I am
I have seen a lot of old movies where people looked older than they
were. Say someone in their 50s have gray hair, a little slower, etc.
and more like someone in their 80s today.
Some of that might have been makeup... and/or directorial license... ;)
One (long forgotten title) movie had a man getting a physical with
the doctor saying to the patient: You have to remember you are no
longer a young man, you turned 50 this year... )
Well... 50 isn't a teenager any more... even now.... <G>
I don't know about you, but I don't spend time trying to look
younger (dyed hair, etc). I enjoy being older, though at times I find some things a bit more difficult to do than I did 40 years ago.
("They're making those things heavier than they used to.") :)
Oh, I don't do anything like that either... never dyed my hair, don't
intend to... got my fair share of white hairs now intermingled with the
brown, so the overall color isn't as dark a brown as it used to be...
Gave up on makeup decades ago, wear my hair long as I (almost) always
have... up or down, depending on my mood and how HOT it is... <G>
I don't dress like younger people to "fit in" with them. (Though
at times I wonder if young people are dressing that way on purpose or
was it a dare?)
Never know with young people... I'll wear what I feel comfortable in...
try to look reasonably nice, but don't dress up much... :) Generally
long cotton dresses... not particularly a style plate.... <G> Sometimes
I get referred to as a hippie... ;)

... In no uncertain terms, this discovery changes everything.
