Yes, I remember you mentioning that before.... In an apartment complex NB>there are not as obvious signs that someone might be in trouble as one NB>might if living in a single family home.... where things like mail
piling up might be visible from the street... or the mailperson might NB>even notice....

Due to sticky fingered nosey neighbors out here, I had to get a Post
Office Box. Yet, if I have to get a product via FedEx or UPS, I have to
"be here all day" waiting for it...yet, I have no clue when it'll
arrive, and they can't guarantee a delivery time.

My building has a locked main door, need a swipe card to get in. The landlords have all been too tight to put in a intercom system and there are wireless ones now.
On the day the package is due (use the tracking page on the net) I'll leave a
note to leave it at the barbershop next door, let them know I'm expecting something and pick it up there.
Once in a blue moon the delivery driver times it when someone is coming or going and gets in.
In late spring I ordered a new (to me) laptop off eBay. I was spring cleaning and washing a wall, my back to the door, with the apartment door open to let in some air, and heard a voice say "Fed Ex!", dropped the package and walked off. No checking to see I were actually home (or anyone in the apartment), no signing, nothing. Anyone could have walked past the door, picked that up and kept on going. Thankfully everyone in this building is honest.
I think it would be wise for UPS, Fed Ex, etc drivers be supplied with a cell
phone to call and let the person know they are outside. The cable company does.

It's like our time isn't important. I know we're not the only one that
is getting a product, but sheesh. It's like "We'll be there sometime
between 8am and 8pm!!"...or as "Ernestine (Lily) Tomlin" told "General
Motors about repairing his hotline to the White House "We'll be there

That's rare. If I'm waiting on a delivery, I'll have the radio, etc.

The word "Service" means NOTHING today -- Customer Service, Postal
Service, Internal Revenue Service, etc.

Well, the other day, I heard 2 farmers talking...and one said "he had
to get a bull to service his cows".

Happened to a neighbour a few years ago.
A package was due and dropped at his door and someone walked off with it.
Now all public areas (halls, foyers, etc) are on camera. If anything happens
now that video can be reviewed. Won't stop anyone but at least it can be seen whodunit. If another tenant it would be easy to find them. If not, well...

That is a good thing, to have a building of all honest people... :)
Perhaps the FedEx deliveryman heard the sound of your work in your
apartment, so at least did know that someone was there...? You'd still
think, though, that he'd check....

That would be useful... even when they are making a delivery at a
single-family home... I don't always hear the doorbell or a knock at the
front door even when I am home, so getting a call to let me know would
be useful... :) We do, though, have an enclosed porch, so if it
doesn't require a signature, it's generally safe to leave something
there for us to find later....

It's just a darn shame that things have gotten this bad...especially
this time of year...when folks doing holiday shopping get ambushed in
the parking lot.

For me, if I do any shopping, it's from Amazon, and I have it
delivered either to my Post Office Box, or to the apartment...and I make
sure I'm here when it shows up.

I had ordered 2 ham radio related items from a vendor in Paris,
Texas...which is right next to a Postal Facility. I told them that "if
it is being shipped via the Postal Service, ship it to my Post Office
Box. But, if it's being shipped via FedEx or via UPS, have it shipped to
my apartment, and I'll make sure I'm here". In all cases, I want a
tracking number, but never got one.

It came via the Postal Service to my apartment, but I was out doing
errands for my Mom. So, when I got back, there was this notice in the
mailbox, saying I could pick it up the next day after 9am. Yet, the
facility didn't open until 9:30am on Saturday. Then, they had trouble
finding the package, even though I brought the slip with the tracking
number. I guarantee you, if they had lost it, I would've posted a
venomous rant on Facebook.

To top it off, they still had an "old holiday closing" sticker, noting
they'd be closed for Labor Day and Columbus Day, 2017 -- both holidays
well over 6 weeks ago. It's as if the left hand doesn't know what the
right hand is doing!!

While that facility is for my zip code, I have my Post Office Box at a different Postal Facility, as their inside counter is open 3 hours
longer per week than the one for my zip code...and it makes no sense to
have it at one that has such shorter hours.

Had I not needed the Post Office Box (due to sticky fingered nosy
neighbors at the apartment complex), I'd have little, if anything, to do
with the Postal Service. They have lost several pieces of mail to/from
me in the past...including medical bill payments and invoices. So, when
I call to make an over the phone payment, if they refuse to take it,
then I tell them "you won't get paid, then".

Passed through in the early '70s when moving from WV back to CO to start college.

In all cases, I want a tracking number, but never got one.

But if I need to have something re-scheduled getting that done is nearly a hopeless task. I get caught in a loop of going from one place to another and back to the first again. And the 800 numbers are as bad being transferred from
one number to another and back to the first without ever speaking to a human being. Or the options (press 1 for...) don't match what I need.
It's a lot easier, I've found, to write deliver at barbershop, or whatever and put it back on the main door.

The plumbing where I live has gotten so bad at times, that you wonder
if the toilets will flush properly. Earlier this year, the water had to
be shut off for a time, due to the construction company cutting the
water lines.

And, in some apartments, the roots of the trees were coming up into
the toilet!! Needless to say, not the best feeling when you go to answer
the call of nature!!

I have several gallon jugs of water to use to flush the toilet, if the
water gets shut off...but also have a portable toilet, just in case.
Nature tends to call at the most inopportune time.

there via Amtrak, and then come back that evening.

One year, this group of students at one of the college campuses in Arkadelphia (about an hour and a half southwest of Little Rock), boarded

Railroad Depot, and rode it to Little Rock. They went and partied for 2
hours downtown, then got back to the depot in time to catch the
southbound Amtrak Texas Eagle at the former Missouri Pacific Railroad
Depot (at one time, noted in "Ripley's Believe It Or Not", as "the
largest passenger station served by only one railroad" (the Missouri
Pacific), for the ride back to Arkadelphia.

The train was basically their taxi...but they were lucky it was on
time in both directions!!

I'm on the west side of Little Rock, and the Post Office where my zip
code is, is open 3 hours a week LESS than the Post Office where I have
my Post Office Box. With all the traffic this weekend, I'm going to wait
until Tuesday to check the box again. I had to get it, because of
"sticky fingered nosy neighbors" out here.
