From Ed Vance@1:2320/105 to All on Sun Dec 16 23:15:00 2018
    Howdy! All,

Tonight at Church I learned that 200 Years ago, December 24, 1818,
the song Silent Night, Holy Night was sung for the first time at
a Church in Austria because their Church Organ had broke down.

Someone played a Guitar as the Choir sang the song.

    Merry CHRISTmas to ALL!

    Ed,

Tonight at Church I learned that 200 Years ago, December 24, 1818,
the song Silent Night, Holy Night was sung for the first time at
a Church in Austria because their Church Organ had broke down.

I've seen a couple of funny cartoons on church organists. One was from
the "Monkeyshines" calendar...where they dress chimpanzees in outfits,
and put them into a setting, then caption the picture. One has this
female chimp at the organ, saying "And, would you believe I've never had
a lesson in my life??!!". But, my favorite Moneyshines cartoon was where
a male and female chimp are on this bench, and the caption says "Hi,
Clarence. Your wife and I were just sitting here waiting for the bus!!"
    <BG>.

The other funny organist cartoon, shows this old lady in front of the
organ, with a shotgun, and she yells "Anybody else offended by my
    playing??!!" <G>.

Also, I understand that one of the ham radio operators in the Rock And
Roll Hall Of Fame in Ohio, Bob Heil, K9EID, is also an excellent
    organist.

Besides making a huge line of fine microphones (they can get pricey
but they are of good quality), used by ham radio operators and
entertainers, Bob also has a wicked sense of humor. Several years ago, I
had gone to "Ham Holiday" in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Tim Duffy, K3LR,
one of ham radio's biggest contestors, went to introduce Bob Heil, and
when he handed him the microphone, the mic died!!

So, Bob calmly reached into this case, pulled out one of his
microphones, and quipped "You know...this happens every where I go". It
brought the house down in laughter!! <G>

We had a fill-in organist at church once in a while, whom I nick-named "Clinker" since once in a while he would hit a sour note.
He was not a professional and was a chem prof by profession.
But he did his best, bless his heart. :)

Daryl can be a joker, but for the most part I think his intent is good. He
    is a character.

I think of the joke where the elderly woman, who was the retired
church organist, was visited by the pastor one day. She had a smaller,
but nice organ at home, where she could practice, and enjoy her music.

Well, when the preacher came by, she told him she'd go get them some
snacks and coffee, and she'd be right back.

As he waited for her to return, he noticed on the organ, a small clear
bowl, half full of water, and in it, was a condom!!

He was so embarrassed, but his curiosity got the best of him. He asked
    her to explain this.

She said that "I was out walking one day, and found it in a package on
the ground. It set 'put on organ, keep wet, helps prevent disease'. It's
true!! I haven't been sick in several months!!".

The preacher fainted dead away. <G>

Yes... the story was told in a book of Christmas Carols with their
stories that we had when I was growing up... so I knew that all along...
I wouldn't have remembered the date or the fact of the 200th anniversary
    from that though, probably... ;)
