equal size would be X amount in NYC he should get that here.
    Doesn't work that way.
Where did he ever get that idea, then...!?
I think he was seeing dollar signs that blinded him to reality.
If people pay that there, they should pay it here, or whatever.
The cost of living in WV is far less than anything in NYC. One can
live well on what would be starvation wages there.

Definitely a case of being out-of-touch with reality.... Especially
since the NYC starvation wages wouldn't have enough in them to pay for
    NYC-type rents....

And half the repairs from the questionaire have never been done or
    half way done.
Apparently he started out with good intentions, if with overly
    optimistic expectations
    An understatement.
Again, I think he only thought people would line up to rent his
apartments and he could just sit back and count the money.
The last two landlords were similar.

$$ for their eyes, just like in the cartoons..... doesn't really work
like that in the real world...

The first landlord I had was an older man who would patch and
jerry-rig repairs, etc as needed. He only sold since he was getting older.

Understandable... He probably got into it as much for the having
something useful to do as for any making money off it...

Water pipes are a major problem in this building and some have
been here longer than anyone can remember. This building was erected
in 1906 so over time things would need to be replaced.

But of course.... nothing lasts for ever, although those older buildings
were built well enough to last a good long time... :)

The building next to this one was erected in the late '40s. The
original burned down in 1945 and rebuilt as it was originally in the
late '40s (same plans) when building supplies were available again.
There were fewer problems in that building but the one he ripped out
    walls willy-nilly, remodeled, etc.

Short-sighted.... Did he get answers to his questionnare that that sort
of construction would be a good thing... or was that just his own take
    on things....
