Which reminds me.
When I was little and didn't want to eat something my mother was
always reminding me of the poor starving children in Germany, Japan and Korea who would love to have what I didn't want.
As time passes, the role of parent and child somewhat reverse.
When I was in my early '30s visiting her at the home she picked at
her meal then pushed it away saying she didn't want it.
I said "Think of the poor hungry people in Ethiopia (at the time)
who would love to have that."
She looked at me, as mothers do, and said "Then pack it up and send
it to 'em!"
I nearly fell out of the chair laughing.
Mothers can get away with that sort of thing... I don't think she would
have let you say that to her, back when you were a child.... that would
have been impertinent... ;)
