All three are buried in back, at the foot of the fire escape/back
stairs. When I take out the trash I pass by them and say hello.

All three of them, at one time or another, have come back to visit
me. Muffy would crawl across the bed and curl up at my feet.
Molly would brush past my hand when I was in bed.
Blanche would lay on my chest.
Once in a great while I will feel one brush past my legs.
I always acknowledge them with a pat and speak to them. Not knowing
which it is its generally "there's a good girl".
... The dead batteries were given out free of charge!!!

Last year there were notices here and there in the building I work
(well, warm a chair) in on weekends at the university, reading:
Free kitty food!
Free kitty litter!
Free litter box!
Free kitty!
I about died laughing when I first saw that and always got a chuckle afterward.

When I had Molly and Blanche I channeled my mother. I would call
Blanche Molly and Molly Blanche, and say something like "Blanche, I
mean Molly..."
She did that a lot confusing my brother and I calling us by the
others name.

exception... being as you are an exceptionally long-term tenant, and

A very common occurrence.... especially among mothers... :) My mom did
it all the time, too... and she had eight kids to run through to get to
the right one... <G>

I like where I am. The rent is good, centrally located, near bus
stops, etc. Been here 39 years and a lot of memories in the old

else to be the owner/landlord for that building.... :)
Someone that would allow pets, keep up the building nicely... and notthink that NYC was the standard for rents and all.... ;)

I don't doubt the current landlord (my fourth) will hold onto this
place a lot longer.
As with any older building (this one was built in 1906 and solid as
a rock) it does have problems as all aging buildings do with
maintenance, etc.
I think he believed he would buy the building then sit back and
count the money as the rents rolled in. That he could remodel some apartments from studio to one bedroom and fight renters off. He's
found its harder to rent a few larger ones than several smaller ones.
He's also found people are not more willing to rent all electric than
gas heat with them paying the electric. I imagine just heating those units is more than the rent.
Someone that would allow pets, keep up the building nicely... and not
think that NYC was the standard for rents and all.... ;)
Like most downtown's there are a lot of empty buildings around here,
for any number of reasons, mostly service businesses like department stores, etc going to malls (which are also dying now), suburbs, stand alone buildings surrounded by parking, etc. Many of those buildings
were re-habbed into luxury apartments, with the landlords thinking they would be fighting off renters demanding apartments. But if you have little or nothing to attract people to live somewhere, they aren't. Thankfully we have a steady stream of students from the university but
not that many can afford $1,000 (and up) for some re-habbed place.
There are building after building refitted for apartments that sit
empty.
But over all, it is sound.... You don't think he'll move back to NYSwhere his expectations are more in line...? ;)
Especially since the majority of the renting population are students
looking for reasonable quarters at a reasonable cost.... Unless 3 or 4 students moved into one of the one bedrooms.... ;)

No, he's from around here. He just seems to think since a place of
equal size would be X amount in NYC he should get that here.

When he bought the buildings he had all tenants fill out a
questionaire on problems, etc.
Then he was going like gangbusters on the other building remodeling
those places and sunk a ton of money into it, till I guess he ran out
of money since several units after five years were never finished. The people helping just left. Due to not being paid one long time tenent

half way done.

Nope, he wouldn't allow that. If he found out they would be gone.
And from key cards, to cameras, etc he could quickly find out who
